Electrics Dieing unsure what to check/replace?

On my way home from the gym today my 2003 manual wrx hatch's stereo started cutting out, so tried shifting the stereo wires around as i thought it may be shorting on something. next thing i know the whole cars electrics are flickering on and off speedo, stereo, clock, turbo timer etc then starting flickering reeeally fast til eventually i was driving home with no rev counter or speedo (lucky i was close to home). car still drove fine but after i got home i turned the car off and tried to start it again but all it does now is flicker as if the battery is dead but wont turn over. the only reason i'm not sure whether to replace the battery is because on the turbo timer (before i crank the engine) the voltage meter on it reads between 11 & just under 12Volts?. also tried jump starting the car but the electrics just die car still runs though.

any help would be much appreciated as i have work tomorrow morning ha

Silly question maybe but are your battery terminals tight and clean?

could be alternator but you should get charge light on the dash. if the alternator dies then the battery will run out of puff too. when its running you should have 14.4-14.8 across the terminals when its off 13.something. anyone who sells batteries will check it for free though. car should still run fine if batteries dead just wont start. check charging and all connections to alternator and as above its actually very common. check for loose alternator belt also.
