Gas smell through vents

I have a Legacy B4 2001, EJ20, twin turbo boxer engine. I have has this problem for a couple of months and it seems to be getting worse as it gets colder. Every time I start the car in the morning, with the heater on demist, there is a very strong smell of gas that comes through the vents.

I have searched for obvious leaks...nothing. I have searched the net for possible solutions and while there are a few good suggestions, my lack of mechanical knowledge prevents me from getting my hands dirty to try these suggestions out.

Can someone please explain to me how to fix this problem.

Check connection on purge solenoid and carbon canister if its located in the enginebay on that model

Can you please tell me exactly where the purge solenoid and carbon canister is as I don't have a clue.

purge solenoid is usually bolted to the underside of the inlet manifold, it has a 2 pin plug and 2 vacuum hoses pluged into it.

Might pay to take it to someone who know what they're looking for, it could always be a dodgy injector seal which could cause your engine to hydraulic lock itself or worse catch on fire.

I would take it in but don't have the time to take it in with work, study and sports. If you can help me out here, I would really appreciate it.

I had this issue with my old v7. I just put it down to them replacing the fuel filter the day I took it away, come to think of it should have looked in to it a bit more - oh well long gone now.
