Removign Power Steering Rack

So failed a wof for having a leaking power steering rack among other things.

Has anyone removed and installed a power steering rack befoer and got any tips??

Iv found a few how tos on the net.

Have had on a hoist and sussed the orings are lekaing the top 2 so the hardest ones am going to do myself save some $$$

Just had to do this myself. The only hard part is getting to and undoing the lines at the bottom of the rack so you can drop it out. I removed my up-pipe to allow enough space so I could undo them - was pretty simple with that out of the way.

After that just undo the mount bolts (underneath), and disconnect the tie rods and it will drop down

By lines on bottom of rack do you mean the top ones up out in the hard spot??

cause those the ones iv got to replace haha

yeah, the lines are actually at the top of the rack sorry! They are the hard lines with flared ends held in by a 14mm and a 17mm nut (from memory thats the sizes).

yeap they look like a right pain to get out..

GOt told could drop axle out of way if i wanted but think il just get inthere give it a go and see how it goes lol..

The ones on the top need new o rings so needs to come out

drop the cross member to get to those lines

Can be done in place

Need lots of patience and cut down spanners to do this job

Words of wisdom..... Make sure you start the threads by hand (finger tips) first

Have seen many racks ruined by cross threading rack fittings

Also make sure this is where it is leaking from first !!, It is common for top seal to fail, esp when turbo heatshield has been removed

i've just dropped the subframe and rack off my foz, it's easy as, just need a few axle stands and a jack. my engines resting on axle stands still (2 weeks later)

Cheers man yeah it is thp seals have had on a hoist and had al ook with mechanic lol
