rego question

hey my rego is about to lapse for over a year nxt week lol, and they say that they will dereg my car, the thing is i cant get a up to date rego cuz i have no wof and my car is of the road for a while. if i go to the post shop and ask to put my rego on hold i will hav to pay for the rego up to that date but does that mean my car will not get deregd??

yea pay up to date then you can put on hold (exemption) for up to 12 months,

BUT a cheaper way is to put car ownership under another name like a family member then you can put on hold without paying back reg, its only $9.20.

You are still liable for back reg if you do this though

If you put it in someone elses name you have to back pay immediately anyway. you could just go in and back pay, and apply for an A reg. that would mean you dont have to have the rego on hold for a minimum of 3 months. also allows you to drive (legaly) to a mechanics to get your car sorted

Yeah, my mate drove round for 2 years with one cause he couldnt be bothered certing an engine swap for a wof. They're meant for mechanics who need to drive between workshops etc. Theyre cheaper than the usual rego. Dont go parking anywhere monitored though as its states 'A class' on the rego slip, and the wardens know exactly what that is.

You will still have to pay back rego.

I beleave LTNZ has changed that.

Ive heard a few guys try that then they got sent a bill for the rego up to this time change of ownership

Yes you could get one, but youd have to back pay the months that your car has been in hold.

Yeah I know that, i obvouisly worded It wrong. sorry for any confusion there. Bottem line you still have to pay money. An A reg is a better alternative to putting your reg on hold being that you can change back to a normal reg at any time without having to backpay for the time used.
