BF5 Legacy window mechanism has failed.

Descriptive, I know. My bad.

I know this is a common misfortune as well.

The Legacy is finally WOF'd and Reg'd, and despite having a blown headgasket it runs beautifully. My sister wanted a demo ride in it so what the heck...I take her for a cruise. Wound the driver's window down for visibility's sake (misted up ftl...it is a cold night), and when I looked back a minute later I noticed it had completely dislodged itself and nosedived forward, toward the wing mirror.

Grab it and pull it in befuddlement and frustration, and booya...the whole damn thing appears to be loose toward the hinge of the door - yet still attached on the handle end of the door.

After much grumbling and cursing the damn b!tch for breaking AGAIN, I manage to gently wind it up and arrange it so that it seals. (Needless to say the Impreza is going to work tomorrow... WTF FRANK.)

So.

What should I expect to find when I peel off the door card...and what will I need to fix?

Will the glass itself be damaged? (If so I have a spare door I can attack). How convoluted is it to fix a disconnected window? What else might be broken...or is it a case of something suffering from a blonde moment and simply coming terminally loose?

Kinda sucky driving a car with a stuffed window, so the damn thing can consider herself parked up until I sort the issue

Dunno. You'll need to rip the trim off and have a look first. It may just have lost a bolt from the front edge somewhere....

mine did this bro

what happened is one of the arms (bottom) came off the rail which means the window dropped, because of this theres another rail guide in the front area which drops off too sometimes.

usually the culprit is the bottom rail, to fix mine i had to simply

1. bend the bottom arm which has a small wheel on it that slots into the rail outwards as far as it would go, make sure the arm is still out of the rail, when you do this

2. now you have to put the arm (with wheel) back into the rail, but also make sure the front of the window seats into the guide slot at the same time, its a balancing act but it slots in with abit of twiddling. Because you force the bottom arm outwards it will be hard to pull back to put into the rail but that tension is needed to keep the arm from pulling away from the rail

the worse case is that the wheel of the arm is fallen off,
