Intake query

Hi All

New to the site and to Subarus in general. This is my first Subaru, a 1998 250T. The question I have is I was having a little look around the engine bay and removed the airbox/Manifold? at the TB and there was quite a bit of oil in it (sorry didn't think to take pics). I know that the breather pipes connect to the airbox/manifold but I am a bit concerned that there was a reasonable amount (at least to me). It appeared to be a few mils in there. Is this common?

Also I have read that this airbox/manifold is there for low rpm torque, so I am assuming that if I remove this and put a pipe connection directly to this it will change the torque characteristics. I would rather have more torque than more horsepower at the moment, so it would be best to leave on?

And yes sorry for the long post - I have been told that I ramble on sometimes!

Very common, especially with a higher km engine. It's just oil residue build up from engine blowby. Pull the pipes off and clean them out with carby cleaner/petrol. A can of Subaru upper cylinder cleaner with every oil change will help too.

Thanks, thats set my mind at ease a little. My car has done about 168,000k's so not sure if that is high milage for a Sub? I ended up giving it a clean out anyway just in case. I have read a few threads of people adding a catch can, so maybe might do that at some stage money permitting. I'm not so keen on having extra oil in the intake.

168 is pretty low considering it's age, my 2000 is about to tick over 220km. I wouldn't be too worried about a catch can, it might take another 50,000km for it to get that bad again.

The Subaru Upper Cylinder Cleaner is great stuff, it will clean all the residue/carbon build up from inside the intake manifold/cylinders etc and help it run a bit cleaner/smoother.

I did buy some Threebond cleaner over the weekend. Thats why I noticed the oil. Smoothed out the idling on the car and does seem to run a bit smoother.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
