Potentially loose wastegate? BD5 RS-B twin turb

^^ So I've been trying to root out all of the weird noises my legacy makes. Fixed detonation, ticking lifters brakes etc

There is however one noise that's been bugging me ( see video above, Ignore title i was just avin a giggle :P )

I Believe it's either a hole in the dump pipe or maybe a loose waste gate component. I don't think its a stuffed turbo I still hit 14-15psi. The noise only occurs under full acceleration and is intermittent. It mostly happens in 3rd-4th gears at about 4000-5000 rpm. It happens more often when the engine has fully warmed up.

If its the wastegate what would need to be tightened and where exactly are they. (EJ20R motor)

One more thing should I be hitting 15 psi pre 4500rpm VOD? Could that be too do with a faulty wastegate?

If it was a loose wastegate you wouldn't be getting 15psi. WG is on the primary turbo, passengers side. You can grip the WG actuator rod with pliers and push the WG open, then should hear the gate slap shut when you let it go. 14-15psi is stock. You might have a secondary WG on the drivers side, but it does nothing.

To check for a DP leak, block the muffler tip with a rag or your boot while it's running. Any leaks will hiss or flutter as pressure escapes.

In the video it kind of sounds like induction/intake noise. Loose airbox lid or maybe a big split in the intake pipe somewhere? Or maybe a hissing boost leak, between turbo and TMIC?

Cheers man very insightful helpful reply :)

I'll be picking up a Apexi Power filter soon, when I install it I will inspect intake piping. If it was a boost leak between turbo and tmic what symptoms could I expect? I mean my Blitz bov goes off very loudly.

The noise could also be your blitz BOV leaking under boost. If it's adjustable try tightening it. Or block it off completely to rule it out.

Normally causes lower boost but not always. Will run rich and sometimes cause idle issues due to the boost leak becoming a vacuum leak when off boost. A good way to rule them out is to block the intake at the AFM/MAF:

Then pump 10-15psi into the intake manifold with a compressor. Any leaks will hiss and be obvious:

It definitely Isn't the BOV the sound was worse before I installed it, everything's tight and snug. I've had zero issues with idle, boost gauge reads 19hg/in at idle when engines warm so no vac leaks.

I did the test with the cloth and the engine speed didn't change It could be an exhaust leak, the way it pop's is pretty unorthodox. Maybe exhaust leak...

- video of pop.

At the end of the day the performance isn't effected its just a rough sound. Dampens the mood when I'm going for it on the coromandel coast road.

Once again thanks for you're advice :)

EDIT: after reviewing footage, I noticed that when I was going for it and shifted too early I hit the VOD,the noise stopped. Just clean exhaust note albeit sounded like EL headers.

The rag test is to check for exhaust leaks, not engine speed. The rag is just to save burning your hand. Blocking the exhaust tip completely will make the exhaust leak hiss. Best to get someone else to block it off, while you listen at the front for hissing leaks.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
