Engine rebuild

So I have purchased a lil project finally. I have wanted one for as long as I can remember.

Its a 1999 Type R STI (EJ207 I could be mistaken). I bought it knowing it had a big end bearing drop and also need a bit of love and a tidy up. I have a limited budget as we have our first child cooking and ready in a month but in saying this, I wont be cutting corners.

I am a complete noob at car engine rebuilds but being an aircraft engineer I do have a little mechanical knowledge.

At the moment I have the engine out of the car and stripped down.

My plan is to get it back on the road so I can do a few race days and come to some clubsub meets.

I will then be buying a V7 STI block and building for power and swap it into the car eventually.

What I have found so far is a big end that is pretty destroyed and also damaged the crank (everything else seems ok).

Can I get the crank machined? or I have found a 1999 B4 legacy crank on Trademe. Are these interchangable?

I have to say that Partsouq is amazing! has everything I need.

I will upload photos when I can figure out how to (I have a photobucket account).

Flick fbssub1 a pm see if he has anything shortblock wise. Depending on budget and plans down the road a semi closed block would be a good idea. Along with v7- rods and pistons. Just match the correct head gasket to piston/head combo. A v7 sti shortie is the easy solution.

Members old car. Big end must have recently gone i was talking to the guy you bought it off not long ago.

Yeah the car has receipts for a build done this year. It must have dropped a bearing again.

I didn't meet the owner but his brother was a big help loaded in on to the car trailer.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
