Check Engine Light Rewiring, Is it possible?

So after doing a cluster swap in my BE the check engine light no longer works, Not entirely sure why. 99 percent its all wired up correct. Checked bulbs etc

So im starting to think that maybe when i was doing the swap i pulled the wire to hard??? Does the check engine light come straight from the ECU? If so i could just run a new wire right straight to the dash light. I would just forget about it but as i want my car to be as healthy as possible it would be good to know if something is wrong etc.

That also gives me another question. I know that when the diagnostic plugs are connected the CEL flashes and you match the code. Are you able to plug in a OBDII diagnostic tool to get a reading aswel??????

Did you check the bulbs light up? CEL signal comes straight from the ECU, WRX Pin 28/B134:

Could run a fresh wire to the cluster if needed. Codes can be read with an OBDII cable, I'm using a stahlcar cable from trademe and laptop.

Yeah I tried the alternator pin in the bulb and that worked. Yeah red/white wire at the cluster end gave me nothing so I will run a new wire. Good that's it's the same colour at the ECU end. Makes it a bit easier.

Awesome if I don't have any luck I will go with the stahlcar option and check it every so often. That's good though cause I'm going to pull the engine so i want to check it incase I forgot to plug something in etc
