rear window wiper and number plate light not working

i failed my warrant for the number plate light just to find out its not just simply a bulb. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? i would like to try fix it myself or if anyone can fix it for cheap that would be a great help.i have a 2003 subaru legacy wagon

These cars have a known issue where the wiring enters the boot door. Maybe worth starting there. Could try solder the wires back together but there's a very likely chance the issue will return. Can buy the whole boot harness but thats a bit pricey.

There's a walkthrough for the swap, should help identify where you need to get into even if you do just solder the broken wires.
