Rev D single conversion

Recommended Posts

Hey lads!

First post on the clubsub forum but I've been trolling around for quite some time. Heaps of great info here. I'm actually in down in Oz still crying about the WC defeat lol.

So I've seen there are many conversion threads (mainly Rev A-C), and I'm about to embark on this journey myself so I wanted to just confirm some Rev D specific questions.

Engine

I wanted to confirm parts I'll need. I understand there are various bolts, brackets and gaskets I'll need and will collect them on the way.

  • VF35 - got it
  • 02-07 wrx headers and up pipe - got it
  • 02-07 wrx down pipe - looking
  • 02-07 turbo inlet - looking...but not sure if it will fit
  • EBC - got it
  • Phenolic spacers - thinking about it pending budget
  • Gaskets, bolts and turbo bracket

Computer

I know the Rev D ECU will will work with the new configuration but I'm not sure of the specifics. Do I just remove everything that's related to the TT system before (BBoD etc.) since I'm going to be using an EBC? This is the most confusing aspect of this for me. Also can I just go into the ECU and turn off the irrelevant codes?

Also, does anyone have the definition files for an aus delivered 2001 Rev D B4?

It should be noted that I will be getting a trusted mechanic to do all the work with me helping and he is excellent with wrx's and knows alot about the B4 and single conversions, but I want to make sure I know everything as well so I can learn and provide answers if there are any issues.

Have I got the gist of it fells? Appreciate any help!

Pic of my baby attached.

If yours is aus delivered then it's a rev E? Aussie only got that one, rev D is jdm / nzdm only (mine was NZ new)

I haven't tried the "wrx rom on a legacy ECU" thing yet - it may or may not be a workaround, but don't want to rick nerfing my only ecu finding out. I'm assuming it'd work fine unless there's any change in pinouts between WRX and B4 ecu's

To be fair if your mechanic has done these before he can give you -all- the information you're asking for

Also I wouldn't bother with the EBC, the factory ECU can do as good a job if not better

Also what's that lip off? (well... air dam haha)

It doesn't matter, I think the differences are only cosmetic and an different ECU tune between them. Your chassis code will say either BE5D or BE5E, it's pretty easy to answer the Q

To answer the question, no, at least not on here. They seem to run fine in single turbo config, if you're going to unplug things then do it one at a time as removing a lot of sensors will trigger fault codes and limp mode

Just do the hardware change first and wing it from there, if your mech has already done this swap then he surely has the wiring sussed as well?

Here's another couple of threads covering it:

You'll also need a single turbo gearbox crossmember to fit an OEM WRX downpipe.

I'd guess other than ECU wiring changes to run a WRX ECU, you'd also need to wire in TGV solenoids to stop the CEL if it can't be disabled. Then tune to compensate for the different compression ratio's and different injectors (V7 WRX baby blue injectors/Rev D pink injectors).

Oh god the infamous Rossub. Your conversion is legendary! And thanks for the links.

Before changing over to a wrx ecu im goign to give the B4 one a go. Ive been told that really its a matter of keeping the differential pressure sensor connected to manifold pressure with equal on both sides and mapping the secondary turbo to replicate the first in the tune.

Lets see how it goes!

I have checked all the pinouts across all three ecu's and found there is bugger all in it. I did this via excel spreadsheet so if anyone wants a look pm me.

I'm curious if anyone wiser has any idea if the hardware is any different? Can the sti rom be loaded onto a legacy ecu and hence get avcs working?

EDIT: it looks unlikely to work:

Peekay, the pins no longer used on the TT system are these:

Relief valve control solenoid valve 2 signal B136 11

Relief valve control solenoid valve 1 signal B136 12

Exhaust valve control solenoid valve (negative pressure) signal B136 3

Exhaust valve control solenoid valve (positive pressure) signal B136 1

Intake air valve control solenoid valve signal B137 12

Exhaust valve control duty solenoid valve B137 11

The additional pins required for WRX are these:

TGV position sensor RH Signal B84 23

Power Supply B135 9

GND B135 19

TGV position sensor LH Signal B84 13

Power Supply B135 9

GND B135 19

TGV RH (open) B84 4

TGV RH (close) B84 5

TGV LH (open) B84 11

TGV LH (close) B84 10

Fuel level sensor B135 25

Torque control 1 signal B134 19

Torque control 2 signal B134 18

Torque control cut signal B136 14

AT diagnosis input signal B135 20

AT load signal B135 28

I don't think any of the additional pins will apply to you unless you are swapping manifolds to use TGV's or have an auto box (which may not be compatible with the WRX ecu?). The fuel level sensor doesn't sound to important for running, you'll soon know if your fuel gauge doesn't work!

Thanks so much Jono that's a huge help.

I actually recently met someone who has a rev d single conversion and his tuner loaded the wrx tune onto it via Ecutek and it's working perfectly for him. This is what I'll turn to if I can't get the b4 tune to comply. And finally after that will be a wrx ecu.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
