99 Legacy Door speakers etc

Hi there,

Have a 99 legacy sedan that has standard speakers.

Can anyone tell me what is the max size speakers I can accomodate in the front? 6"?? 6.5"?

Also, has any legacy owner managed to buy component speakers where their tweeters are able to replace the factory ones inside the enclosure (ie, so thieves can't tell that I've upgraded).

(per my previous post).

Thanks all.

Most lower-end component speakers will fit, either 6 or 6.5". They normally come with 20mm tweeters which fit in the factory location, you just need to snap the lil holders off and fix them down with some double sided tape.

The woofers may be too big for the plastic speaker holders, but you can just hacksaw the plastic cover, so they will fit.

The other way you can go is get some 2-ways that have the tweeter and the woofer in one unit. One option that I know does work is the Pioneer TS-16xx series. They are 16cm speakers.

As far as models, well it's been a while since I've dealt with lower end speakers, but if you wanted to post up any options you are looking at, there are a few of us audiophiles who could say yay or nay.

Haha with my double sided tape and hacksawing I sound quite rangi, I assure you I'm not really that rangi :D

Usually 6.5". Make sure they are not too deep. If the factory ones are Clarion you will need to make mounting brackets out of MDF or cut the basket and motor assembly out of the old drivers and reuse the frame to mount your new speakers. The key is to ensure there is a tight seal between the new speakers and the door (no air gaps).

If you have McIntosh speakers, simply reuse the plastic frames. Note with McIntosh you are best to use 8 ohm speakers if you retain the existing amp otherwise they will be much louder than the old ones and tend to drown out the sub.

Thanks guys.

I have built my shopping list which now includes a slimline 12" sub and 4ch amp.

I think the components will be the trickiest thing so I think I'll just leave it all up to a professional =)

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
