V4 STI Factory boost control??

OK when i got my type R it had the factory boost control disconnected and had a direct feed to the actuator with a boost tap that was closed so only running wastegate pressure ( about 0.5 bar )

Tonight I reinstated the factory boost control and went for a test , result , a constant 1.2 bar (17.6 psi) which made it go damn hard ;D and boost really quick but also chews the gas. :(

So my question is does the factory solenoid operate as a failsafe , ie. if it looses power it will only run wastegate pressure?

Because if it does what im thinking is put in a relay to switch off the factory solenoid and run low boost then flick a switch to close the relay and run high boost.

Would this work and has anyone done this before?? any input appreciated .

PS it runs a 3 port solenoid.

I've been meaning to do the same thing with my current setup as you're correct in thinking that if the solenoid looses power, then it drops to wastegate boost pressure. Although I'm running a Possumlink so don't have the issue of ECU codes ;D

i read abit and have useless info like this, or this could be useful to you who know's.

drive by wire system's can be tuned to where the ecu Forces the factory boost control to shut down and run mechanical pressure instead, depending on the configuration and set up,

like if you hit 100kph the Factory boost control system (FBCS) can set higher boost targets and say 50-60kph set lower targets or shut down and run mech pressure,

even what gear you are in hi/lo targets and rpm. So the factory boost control system is better than any aftermarket control system out there, and I have no problem arguing this with any one. i have more info somewere on this if anyone is keen to have a read.. hmm i should of had another read just to make sure im saying the rite thing 90% sure tho ;)

Would be v. interested to hear more about the FBCS and what it does.

It depends on which factory ECU 8) - the later model ecus (bugeye +) have much better boost maps than the early models which were pretty basic.

Also the factory hardware is usually 2 port bcs which aren't so good if you move away from the factory turbo

you Can take a map designed for a 2 port bcs and modify wgdc for 3 port,

you can mod any map to what ever you want new or old moddel's, also moveing away from factory turbo dont mean to much,

tuning it well dose It would come down to the turbo dynamics and tuning wgdc to achieve boost target, the only thing that will really hinder anyone would be that you reach the threshold of the mechanical efficiency of the turbo your using, from my understanding anyway... hmmm there is more to say to this if you want to get into it ;)

some of us are pretty old...

you said factory boost control is better than aftermkt man ;) you didn't specify which model.

I just said it depends on which model ECU your using...

:D true sorry anywho "older" ecu's could and can be modified with the addition of a plug-in ECU chip, limited results but still sweet. i quess im just a fan of flash re-tuning over ecu upgrades

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
