Brake pads rattling?

I have a wierd rattle that seems to be coming from my brakes. I have a 98BH wagon auto.Usually start to make a noise between 40 to 60km/h. If I turn it stops and if I apply a bit of brake preasure it stops. I've had the wheels off and given everything a bit of a wiggle and poke. The only thing to really look abit loose are the pads.The lower end of the pads have a little bit of movement but only a mm or 2. Any help would be appreciated. And any Idea on what a set of pads might sting me. Cheers

You probably just need the right shims for them. They should hardly move in the caliper at all.

well could just be your heat shields are lose by the catalytic converter, I mean you did say it seems like it’s coming from the brakes to me that means you’re not too sure, yea could be the brake pads , the stops have probably come lose or something,

just to be sure, the shims are the thin metal things the pads sit in to fit snug in the calipers. There is one in the top end of the caliper but nothing in the bottom loose end. cheers

They sometimes rattle on the slider pins/bolts too. Try grabbing the whole caliper and shaking it up and down in place. They might need a bit of thick grease on the pins.
