Trouble starting

Right so we transpanted a ej20g into my girlfriends 94 bg5a re pined it all, cranks and cranks and cranks once you stop turning over sometimes it will let ot a pop and bit of smoke (no downpipe atm) sometimes it comes up with code 23, which in the CEL thread that says AFM (which came out of a fully working car) but also been told that code 23 is cam/ crank sensors, now sometimes this code comes and goes but the car still wont start? any ideas?

hows the exhaust smelling???? can you smell heaps of fuel? the pop indicates spark.... check youve got the sparkplug leads the right way around.... or even just try swapping them front and back and see what the go is

What manifold etc are you using? The TPS isn't interchangeable between EJ20G and EJ20H.

The only sensors used for start up are crank, cam and water temp.

we are using the 20g manifold with the 20h loom ill try swapping the plugs done a wasted spark as coils were poked. fuel smelt strong but i think it is rather old so will get new fuel to.

ok got qurtar tank 98 octane , found out cam and crank + were swapped so swapped them now getting CEL 31 but the CEL cart here is different to

nope nt yet still wont start if it is the tps it should stil fire right? as it dont use it to start?

BTW we ae using a forester i think 5w black ecu

Id be checking all of your re-pinned connections again. Sounds like youve got the ignition timing out

But usually they won't fire with the throttle wide open, and that's what it thinks you have.
