Vehicle speed sensor?

What exactly is the vehicle speed sensor? I'm getting error code 33, Vehicle Speed Sensor 2.

If its like a svx theres ever one on the front diff or in the auto transmission depending if its JDM or not

seeing as your speedo is cable driven, what happens is the Cable comes from the g/box, spins up the speedo, then the speedo outputs a signal to the ECU... If your speedo still reads correctally, check the electrical connectors in the back of the cluster, if still no luck then its possible your cluster is poached

Broken speedo cable is normally the cause of this.

Haha its been a project!! Yes speedo is working fine, also, I have a Apexi RSM hooked up and it reads the speed correctly too, unless its interfering with the speed sensor? Quite possible come to think about it, as the RSM claims to have a speed cut..

there we go... RSM most likely interfering with speedo signal to ecu causing ecu to go HAHAHAH get lost flash a 33 and go into limp mode.... although I found out the other day if you plug in the reset connectors it runs as per normal even with codes showing, not a good long term solution though

Sweet ta I'll unplug RSM in the morning and give it a whirl, hopefully it'll solve my engine cutting out at 4500rpm!?

The wiring between the speedo and ECU may be damaged though.

Thatll be the limp mode the ecu has gone into... but yeh, check the wiring as it may be damaged from the installation

Wow you WRX guys get limp mode from a dodgy speed sensor? Thats harsh. Id be checking your codes again and making sure youve got the right one, as only autos have 2/3 speed sensors? And even then i dont think it causes limp mode

On the Auto boxes, i think speed sensor 2 is the one in the tail housing

Speed sensor 2 is in the back of the speedo head in the early Impreza's and Legacy's.

Got it sorted, Apexi RSM was interfering with it.
