Keep breaking speedo cables!!

Hey guys,

The speedo cable in my car (in the part that screws into the gearbox) broke a week ago, which it had also done a couple of years ago before I painted my car, and also a couple of years before that when I was 12 (19 now) when my cousin first purchased it. I took it breaking on the chin and luckily found a spare speedo drive up the road for it for free, but after driving the car twice it has broken AGAIN. So now the total count for broken speedo cables is four times. The gearbox has also been replaced in the car so I don't think it's a faulty gearbox or anything.

What could be causing all this breaking? It's starting to piss me off. Friends of mine have owned at least three subaru rally cars with cable driven speedos and they've told me they havn't had one break once..

is it sitting on the dummpipe, i found that mine has seized due to heating the cable.

are you putting new speedo drives in or 2nd hand ones? i have broke one in my v2, its a pretty common thing to happen. i wouldnt bother with 2nd hand ay.

Yeah sam you might have just replaced it with ones that were on there way out, and like dubbedup said make sure its not getting hot or anything like that.

yours showed up yesterday so will be putting it in tonite.

mine was glued/melted to the exhaust when i went to take it out
