biofuel and CEL 66

Recommended Posts

I made a bad choice in fuel and used gullforce10 in my 97 legacy rs for many months, a friend warned against it and soon after I got a turbo CEL occasionally, I stopped using the gull and after a 2 tanks the light stopped coming on.

For some reason, I got another tank of gullforce10. Now the CEL keeps coming back. It doesn't come on if the car is just coasting, but going up a steep hill and having to accelerate then it's bound to come on.

Also, if I have the car in diagnostic mode with the 2 sets of terminals in the drivers bay connected then it seems to behave ok..mostly, there is a bit of sluggish response.

Does anyone have ideas on what the biofuel did to the turbo set up? and in particular the 2nd turbo which seems to behave the worst. Yet to try much, I've only cleaned the solenoids out the way it is suggested on uk legacy forums with no noticed benefit

I can almost guarantee it will be pure coincidence. Biofuel won't damage your twin turbo system, they die on their own accord. Start by checking the BOVs, mainly the secondary. They have a habit of leaking boost into the vacuum system. That throws code 66.

If it's the secondary it'll be loose like a palmy girl. They start to leak over time like the crappy (identical?) primary bov's.. pull it off and check it for holding pressure. If it's not that then check for split hoses both inside and outside the black box (of doom). Those are the usual suspects, every now and then it may be one of the sensors, valves, or the solenoids.

There was a thread about that long ago.

Subaru have never done any testing to see if E10 is good bad or indifferent.

All they know is when the cars were built back in Japan many years ago they only tested them with 3% ethanol.

No one at subaru have tested anything with e10 on older cars because they don't want to waste $$ testing it, they only sell new cars. The easy default position is to say don't use it

Subaru NZ would also disaprove of nearly every modded car on CS - saying you shouldn't do it

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
