Looking at possibly getting a 1992 1.8L Legacy

Its 4wd and manual with Hi/Low

Has done 200,000 so kms.

I think its NZ new.

Ive got a few questions...

What do I look out for that could go wrong in one of these?

What is the fuel eccommy like for one?

Is there any thing else I should know about them?

I used to get 550km per tank from my EJ18 sedan. But it was FWD, SOHC and SPFI. Awesome engine, it took a brutal beating every day of its life ie. red line clutch dumps seconds after cold start up.

Was a good car tho after i upgraded the interior. Would do 165 flat out and was good on gas even when you gave it the berries. Other than that, all the usual Subaru stuff applies: Oil leaks, oil pumps and ticky lifters. I found the clutch to be a little weak for my liking, but maybe thats because i was used to the turbo ones

They sound wickedly cool with a nice exhaust and if you get the MPFI version i hear it likes to rev better.

check servicing

check for rust(may have been a beach/surf hack)

fuel economy I have no idea(never worried about it )

be gutless at a guess as it is the AWD model

Bloody hell Ive just looked at 2 1800 legacys 1 guy told me he had owned it for 2 years... When in fact they have only owned it for 2 weeks

And the 2nd guy said he owned it for 3 months and when in fact it was only 3 bloody days.

Ive just spent 70 bucks on VIR reports

I hate liers

One guy has explained himself and Im ok with his explaination and it checks out.

The other guy told me he's sold it but never explained himself why he told me the big porkie
