Standard STi equipment for the track

Hey all,

Ill be taking my car to the track for its first time in a few weeks time, can some one tell me if I have a factory baffled sump? is a proper baffled sump necessary just running on road tyres ?

and do our Cars have factory fitted oil coolers at all ?

The car is a 1999 Version 5 STi BTW,

if your just going to a club day ur car will be fine, just treat it with respect

Wont have a baffled sump from factory. If you want to do it, its 200+gst from possum bourne motorsport. Send it in and they will return it to you baffled and ready to go with their own pbm spec gasket. You dont 'have' to have one but its something that would most likely take some weight off your mind.

damn I see, would running a heavier oil such as 15w-50 on the track help with oil starvation at all ? Im running 10-30 atm I think, and also our cars dont come with any factory oil cooler of some sort?

You car has a baffled sub standard like all subarus, just the level of baffling is not as good as is somtimes required. You however should have no issues on road tyres and limited experience (Judging from your post) Get out there and enjoy.

subarus dont have baffling as such, they have a windage tray built into the sump... its to stop oil slopping onto the crank when your doing 9000rpm and cornering and to help cool oil as it returns to the sump(fat chance inside a hot engine) but thats what i was told by some self claimed god of subarus.

That being said, I BEB'ed on road tyres at Manfeild, so it can happen. Then again, anything can happen. Like Q said, go and have some fun.

They have what effectively works as baffles, the PBMS mod is just an extension or improvement on these.

Oh sweet, I've been doing regular trackdays coming from a honda ITR so not really new to track driving,

had baffled all my honda Type Rs running Semi slicks, But just a bit concerned with taking the STi being turbo and all. Sweet, I'll be taking it pretty easy as it will be first time getting out there in this STi, some semis, brakes and cooling mods to come very soon. already got an alloy radiator sitting to be installed this weekend
