  1. Does the car idle ok? I have a bad TPS and my boost sometimes plays up similar to what you described.
  2. +1 I had a K+N pod on my 540i, and switching back to factory airbox gave me an HP increase (SOTP) and a verified fuel economy improvement of 2l/100km. (possibly because i wasnt nailing it as much to get that hawt v8 induction sound lol)
  3. Yeah i'm surprised i get no hassles, as its real effing loud eh. (mine is just a hi power... no silent in that!) Will see what happens when i do down+midpipes.
  4. Agree with going back to factory airbox. pods let in more particulates (especially sand if you're near a beach) Which wear down the compressor blades on your turbo increasing spool time and lag. I have inspected a VF31 which had this problem. As for exhaust, i believe most of the dB increases relate to the rear muffler. I have an HKS Hi Power on mine which is LOUD, but i pass WOF's no probs and never get hassled by the police. Flag the ZS controller, Turbo back exhaust and just get started on a single conversion. Odds are you'll spend all that cash on the TT system only to decide to go single in the end anyway (like me). Do it once, do it right. My 2c.
  5. So to clarify: You took the Passenger side turbo out (Primary), started putting in a vf14, stopped, put back the VF13, then took off the secondary turbo (Drivers side) and replaced it with another, stock VF14?
  6. +1 Other things to look for are loose intercooler pipes and fubared gaskets.
  7. I vote diff clink too. Best handling upgrades to start with are as mentioned; tyres, swaybars + endlinks, strut braces, underbody braces etc.
  8. Not Yet. Had the Car 2 Years now. It's NZ New and was purchased from auction with 93kms on the clock and FSH. Now on 144kms, bigger primary, more boost and yet to have an issue. Touch wood. Oil+filter changes roughly around the 5-8k mark - whenever it starts to obviously discolour. I also run a flush every second change.
  9. My exe's BF (now ex, thank god) kept asking me everytime i mentioned i was going to do something to the legacy "aww, why dont you just put a garrett on it bro?" This is the same guy that reckoned he was going to put a 3.5" straight through exhaust on his SR20DE N/A because 2" was too restrictive. The same guy that would tell my son that he used to "boy race" his MX6 in palmerston north and got "bored taking cash from evo and sti owners". Again, the same guy that reckoned he was going to throw some "nos" and "coilovers" at his p11 primera after he had pulled the engine and turboed it. 2 years later the thing is still stock, except for the tophats which he had to replace because he snapped a stud by over torquing a nut when installing a "sick as" $20TM strut brace. Of course when i told him it had snapped because he over torqued it he just stared at me blankly. This is the same guy who is an absolute tool, and thankfully has no more influence over my children. ;D
  10. Same set up as mine. And thats what I thought too. but after a while of being used to it (and also owning a RWD) i found the understeer to still be abhorrent. I've now cranked it to the hardest setting and the thing is magic. Stiff as a schoolboy in a brothel tho - I get one rear wheel off the ground just going into my driveway Didnt think i needed to do the front either. Now the bar is on its hardest setting its become plainly obvious that an upgrade of the front is necessary.
  11. Auto will be shifting into VOD most probably.
  12. Yup. All it takes is the slightest knock. I got my ass tapped at the lights last year, and while its not that bad, my rear bar has never been the same since
  13. White oily stuff? Whats the condition of the engine oil?. Any white stuff under the oil cap? Is it actually *using* water, or just appear to be leaking? If its not Using water, i suspect the puddles your getting might just be the aircon discharge. Though the bubblg sound behind the dash indicates there's air in the system and it probs needs a bleed.
  14. Mate had a VZ-R back in the day. That thing was the tits!
  15. Cant see the pic, but if you didnt replace the copper crush washers on the oil feed line my moneys on that. When i swapped out my turbos, i didnt replace the washers and while oil wasn't spraying over the engine, after boosting smoke would POUR out of the bonnet like the car was on fire. Replacing crush washers completely solved it. Edit: I see now you've done that lol.
  16. Correct. Came on the e-tunes i think. Fin design gives more progressive boost than say a VF18. Basically these are a VF32 clocked differently and with a smaller turbine housing.
  17. That dosent mean that it came from the factory with a VF25.
  18. Poddies Can kill turbos too. Especially if you live near the beach. Fine sand particles can get through and wear the fins down (basically increasing the gap between fin and housing) causing longer spoolup/more lag. Have seen this first hand on a couple of turbos.
  19. Seriously - If you are going to go to the hassle of pulling the turbos, pull the motor and single it.
  20. I Upgraded my secondary from a VF19 - VF32. The difference is negligible.
  21. VF26 is best factory primary. VF25=Auto, VF26=Manual. Go VF26. VF26>VF18 The VF13 is from a BD/G5A Legacy (that is, the first of the second generation legacys) The VF26 would be a substantial upgrade. Also, next time I do any turbo work, without shadow of a doubt I'm going single.
  22. RSB

    boost drop!

    1. Check that your vacum hoses are connected correctly to the EGV on the secondary turbo. Cant remember the numbers off the top of my head, but can look later if you need to know. If they are hooked up the wrong way round, you will get the exact symptom you've mentioned, with no CEL. 2. If you have a ZS sequential controller, this may need resetting. However a CEL normally accompanies this.
  23. Turbos are finally on the car and after a fair amount of head scratching its running with no oil or air leaks. Boost is far more progressive with this combo than with the vf18/19. The car launches much, much harder and dosent bog down like it used to. Over a given stretch of road (100m?) I'm picking up an extra 15km/h over the old combo. (primary only - shortshifting before vod) I've also found that the new primary's sweet spot is later in the rev range than the vf18, which means i've had to change my sequential controller settings. VOD has also been reduced further. 1 thing though, and thats that i'm not getting the same punch on secondary that i was - Possibly because along the way some of the vacum hoses connecting to the secondary actuator got munted and have been rangied up. will replace these when i find some and see how i go.
  24. Absolute PITA to get the double sided tape off. Though i've been told 3M does a product exactly for this. I took them off my lifted Terrano Because Clay banks were getting the better of them, but god do i wish my legacy had them! Try being a smoker in bad weather in a highly polished legacy with no monsoons. it sucks. badly.
