  1. You lost your ABS cherry. Probably psychological, as you say you never used the brakes hard before.
  2. More like composition goes out the window. Angled shots are a cliche. Commiserations Turtle !
  3. Used Reds and Greens back in the day when they were the shizz. Both were prone to early fade. Random build quality. Poor build = poor fit. Sometimes noisy. Honda bike guys don't think much of them either. There was a guy on an overseas Golf GTI forum who was a re-seller but even he didn't recommend them. At one time EBC were making contingency payments to users and free replacements. Product info all over the show. Some brochures say Red/Green Ok for track work, some say not. New formulations since I used them ? Who knows ? I don't recall any mention of ceramic material on the Reds I tried. But if Al sez they are excellent, that's good enough for me. ;D (Assuming that's the Al I think it is...) Expensive at ~$200 for Greens, ~$400 for Reds. For track alternatives try Ferodo, Mintex, Endless, Pagid etc Usual riders... YMMV yada yada yada
  4. Probably old age. I've done heaps of laps around Manfeild on BS RE01R's with no probs. That old master WRXJIM recommended a few basic precautions; overfill your engine (put in the full 5L when changing oil), try to take corners in a gear higher than normal, which lowers engine revs during cornering. Seems to have worked for him, he was running sticky tyres (Toyo R888s etc) with a relatively standard engine.
  5. That's a good price. Last set I got from Racebrakes was $175+gst. Ripco wanted $200+ For those who don't know... TS2000 are also known as Ferodo Formula.
  6. Car: MY00 STi v6 Suspension: Standard Mags: BBS 10-spoke Spec C option wheels diamater: 17" Wheels width: 7.5" Offset: +53 Tyres spec: 215/40ZR17 87W Toyo T1R did you have to roll the gaurds?: No
  7. You should be fine on road tyres. Those Grid 3's must be due for replacement ? How old are they ? Don't know of any GD's go bang, only GC8's. Overfilling a little bit, say 0.5L, shouldn't cause any problems. It's pretty much standard practice to use an entire 5L oilpack when changing the oil.
  8. So much fun to be had in this thread... Mercedes are all about bling ! Take a peek at all the toys in a new C-, E- or S- class. Bendix SRT ...had a feeling these were not an official import Don't need slots for puddles anymore, some of the latest Euros automatically squeeze the brakes a little to dispel water. Have had personal experience with EBC and compared to Ultimates or TS2000's they are indeed crap. Quite a few friends have also used them, once or twice for the more foolhardy. Standard equipment on driver training cars is no great endorsement either; I've seen trailerloads of BMW Driver Training cars fitted with Chinese takeaway tyres. Skimmed discs are even more prone to warping as they will be thinner than standard. Rotors are a wear and tear item so why waste $$$. Been there, done that with various DBA products. Best VFM... stock rotors, good pads and fluid, properly bedded in and cooled down after a hot run.
  9. Only knob is you. Modern pad formulations no longer produce as much gas obviating the need for slotting. Typical for a twat who proclaims ebc greens as the best.
  10. Slots are for bling. EBC are crap.
  11. Bendix SRT finally available here ? How much ? Sizes ? How do they compare with Ferodo TS2000 ?
  12. I would have thought businesses would like the positive comments.
  13. So no one here had their car serviced at Burnside Motors 11 months ago and forgot to pay the bill ? And another WRX in the news... http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/2262160/Armourguard-driver-robbed-of-200-000 Getaway car of choice for the informed crim.
  14. I know that road well. Have to be a mega-muppet to lose control around there.
  15. 19yo loses life on straight piece of road http://www.stuff.co.nz/manawatu-standard/news/2261961/Teen-killed-in-high-speed-crash/ Who didn't pay their garage bill ? http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/2260498/Gang-threat-issued-to-get-400-bill-paid
  16. All the above and clear interior shots. WRX tachometer has lower redline than STi and different instrument faces. Plus different seat trim. Albeit teh above can be changed.
  17. I'm a wee bit biased but I say go for a classic v6.
  18. Comparing race histories with Porsche will always end in favour of Porsche. Ferrari is probably the only comparable car company.
  19. In general agreement with a couple exceptions. 1. I think a lot of GTR owners will be tempted to lap a GTR then drive it home. ;D 2. The 'vette is not totally devoid of a racing history... http://corvettemuseum.com/specs/2006/RacingHistory.shtml
  20. What's your point ? Porsche GT2 3.6L twin-turbo 530bhp flat-6 1440kg. Hi-tech vs. "lowtech" pushrod 'vette. ;D
  21. Price no object it would be the 'vette ZR1; Looks nicer, sounds much better , handles just as well as any 4wd and it's FAST. Checkout all the vids on Youtube including the 'vettes incredible 7:26 Nurburgring run and a roadtest where it blitzes the GTR, Porsche GT2, Ferrrai 599. Price considered; the GTR. Nothing compares at the $150k mark. Oh yeah; You can buy the Corvette's LS9 as a crate motor to put in whatever you fancy.
  22. SVX looked better, how could it not ? It was designed by one of the greatest car doodlers ever, Giorgetto Giugiaro/Italdesign. While the Ferrari and M5 were hardcore performance cars, the SVX and XJS were softer, more genteel cars. Designed to waft along in comfort rather than with sharp handling and high speed. The SVX was hampered by its weight; 1600kg and only ~172kW It was a great looking, luxurious 2+2 touring car for the well heeled, though not to the tune of $116k. Indenticar list them as being first imported in May 1992 at $75K.
