If you pull the turbo off you will see a crapload of oil in either the outlet dumppipe or in the intercooler piping.
The turbo is best case senario...
Otherwise yeah i would say piston rings.
A leakdown and or compression test at a good workshop will tell you.
You could also use a jumper cable from the + batter terminal and touch it on the starter large positive terminal. This will tell you if your starter is stuffed.
Just tuch it on there and you will know striaght away.

I would bloody hope my garage would call me and tell me if something was not right. Regardless of how large or small the issue was.
Sounds to me like you may be slipping the clutch a little.
They smell is the clutch overheating and burning.
Maybe practice your hill starts on small inclines untill you get used to its operation..
This will save your clutch from wearin out to fast.
Right so the boot decal on QYKCHK is starting to look a little worse for wear so we want to replace it.
It currently has the blue/yellow one with black crosshatch lines in the letters.
Does anyone know where these can be had new?
It needs to be exactly the same as what is there now so i'm thinking we may need to go genuine...
