  1. Check the fluid levels and the belt, can you hear the belt slipping at all? If both belt and fluid levels are ok then I'd say your power steer pump is buggered.
  2. What were the differences you noticed just out of curiosity?
  3. Chances are your computers sensing more boost than whats normal and cannot lower it buy using the wastgate because your boost tap is in the line now so its cutting spark to try and drop it down hence the puff of black smoke (un burnt fuel), it would probably have put it in limp mode now because of it hence your slower start ups, a mates wrx done the exact same thing at anything over 13psi, all I can say is that your best bet is to, A- Lower the boost your running B- remove the tap completely and put up with slightly less grunt than before or C- get an aftermarket computer setup of some sort to override the high boost signal that your current computers getting. A simple equation you can do is, Higher boost + no mods to support it = rattle rattle bang boom! Might pay to reset the computer and see what that does too.
  4. I'm pretty sure as a rule any whiney noise from any turbo means bad news - get rid of it lol
  5. Try and adjust the door catch - just unscrew the two screws slightly and tap in inwards a bit, it doesn't take much but worked for all my vehicles with this problem, try that perhaps before worrying about wiring etc
  6. So I've pretty much sussed out that the VF32 would be a good replacement for what ever's in my wagon already and plus it would match the VF31 primary, question is would it be a straight swap eg unbolt old turbo and bolt up new VF32? The secondary thats in there now has no wastegate so it's the later of them all.
  7. So I realized today that it is now 2010 and I dont have a clubsub calender, the thought of spending an entire year without a clubsub calender is a tad daunting to say the least So does anyone know anything about these - when they'll be up for sale etc etc? Last I read was that paid members were voting on cars but thats about where it ends I think.
  8. I've experienced this problem too with my Legacy only on the odd occasion though - I think it all depends when and where in the rev range you give it the jandel, the TT system can sometimes get a bit confused
  9. ICV - Idle control valve perhaps? 50bait does your idle jump around when the motors cold too? if so I'd almost put money on it being your ICV, I had similar prob with mine a while back and ran a can of "Subaru upper engine cleaner" through it and she's been mint ever since, apparently you can just remove them and give them a good clean too but I found the can of stuff to work a treat.

    noisy lifters

I think it's quite easy to mis diagnose the rattle at start up on the TT legacy's for lifters when it's actually piston slap, I made that mistake, you should have seen my mechanics face when I said "can you book it in to have the tappets adjusted" - they're solid lol
  11. I've put the Nolathane two piece bushes in my BG that you guys are talking about and I thought they were crap! The ride in my wagon went from nice to "rattle rattle" and feeling every little bump under foot, and they have more play in them than the original! about 3mm front to back and I'm sure you can feel them moving around too, I was highly disappointed, my wagon now crabs across any little uneven piece of road eg if you dont hold the wheel tight your in the ditch! - I'm guessing because of the bush movement, well thats my bad experience with them anyway. Waiting until the new year to order some whiteline ALK ones - at $450 a set they're not at all cheap.
  12. My Leggy has one, I think it came out in the last run of that model as an option, they use the same mounts ect ect so if you found one you could put it on your model.
  13. "PhatRs" Could you let us know how you get on with the mod? Am interested to see if it actually makes a noticable difference by having the alloy arms in or not - cheers mate!
  14. Dam straight!! Could'nt have said it better myself.
  15. Your not the only person with this problem, every turbo subaru I"ve been in has this "slap" you talk of, I've had my BG5 since 70km's and now just ticking over 97km's and it's always done it and has'nt got any worse that I can notice, it does'nt burn any oil at all - I'm guessing thats the 1st sign things are getting about buggered, ahhh one of the many crazy Subaru "traits" aye. The Subaru workshop I take mine to in Chch said "it's got a bit of slap when cold but that's completely normal for this model with these km's" I think you can rest easy that it's no big drama, your on to a good thing with warming it up though, I do the same.
  16. Hi there, congrats on the new purchase, what exactly do you mean by "major decarbonization done" - I've never heard of anyone having this done, my workmate has a 99 Lancaster 6 and gets about 600+ km's easy out of a tank of mostly open Rd driving.
  17. Thanks guys, where exactly do these cones fit? And where the hell do I find them lol? Is it worth all the hastle?
  18. Hey everyone, I hear quite often about guys putting alloy front control arms of an sti onto the BG Legacy, what are the main reasons for doing this swap? Can anyone let me know what they've gained by it? I've found a set that have come out of a 2005 sti, will these bolt up to my BG wagon?
  19. I've seen fully rebuilt short blocks on TradeMe starting from as little as $1200 up to about $3500 depending on the model ect ect. Possom Bourne motorsport have fully rebuilt blocks with genuine parts for $1850 - thats a bargain I'd say! bolt up your heads and bits and bobs and your good to go!
  20. Oh well that all makes sense now lol, ok I shoud have been more specific with my 1st post - factory they were never designed to run on 91
  21. Ok so your one of the FEW people that have had no problems, I have seen many melted pistons and buggered big ends from doing this, but hey who am I to judge lol
  22. Jesus good job for persevering, its lucky you did!!!!
  23. Man what is with people running 91 in there turbo subbies? We all know its no good for them and they were never designed to run it, so stop being tight pricks and shell out the extra $2 a tank and run 98!! ;D
  24. I usually get about 550kms out of a tank - thats from full to when the fuel light comes on of mostly open road driving and using the 2nd turbo a few times, thats with 98 octane too.
