  1. If the mechanic doesn't know weather a WRX is SOHC or DOHC, he is NOT the mechanic for the job! find someone else.
  2. Yeah but longblock wise, the GTB's manifolds, and sensors etc would bolt on right? Or are the incompatible? Even if they worked though... the GTB's ECU's tune would not match up with the V3 block. May be a couple of HP wasted there?
  3. Thought i'd have a crack at it too.
  4. Depends, tell us what ECU you got in there at the moment rex-leggy (What's your real name btw?) 96 was, as far as i'm aware, the cross over year to the 3-plug (manual) 1-plug (auto) ECU's. Now, weather it was ONLY the GTB/EJ20R that got the 3-plug, or both the EJ20H and EJ20R's that got 3-plug, i have NO idea. So yeah, dive into that footwell and tell us what you got in there. It may also be that you are pre 3 plug (i'm putting my money on this). [quote name='Leighos said: I'd say the lack of boost means you havent got the factory boost control quite right, 4-5psi is the factory wastegate spring and the boost solenoid overrides this. I guess you could always use some other means of boost control ie bleed tap or EBC. Well, for the TT's, the "turbo wastegate duty solenoid" is in the passenger side wheel well/under fender. I bileave rex-leggy will be using the "secondary turbo] exhaust valve duty solenoid" for his boost control, since that's the one sitting next to the turbo (in the BBoD). This may be what's wrong, i found with the 3-plug setup at least, that the single turbo ECU was talking to the fender BCS, not the BBoD BCS. Now... i don't know how the TT does boost control, i read a write up about it but have forgotten. So i don't actually know if theres' a fix, but i suspect there may be a simply wiring fix like in my single conversion thread My recommendation though, is single turbo ECU only, to run single turbo.
  5. I tend to agree with that. [quote name='Leighos said: I'm using that pinout of yours for the TT ECU, thats the only one I can find (after many long hours of googling!!) How reliable is it? Which one, the 3 or 4 plug TT ecu pinout? The 3 plug is fine, i also posted the STi 3 plug pinouts, the match perfectly. If you're talking about the 4plug TT ecu, PM koom, he has a high res version and some more stuff about them apprently.
  6. The real question is though, why on EARTH would you want to do that!? (thinking more on the difficulty of mod vs benefit of reward here + it being illegal) :
  7. On second look, it actually doesn't look TOO bad, looks like the brunt of the force was taken to the tail gate, above the chassis rails like shale, you had a look under the car for damage?
  8. F*** Oh that's a shame! Puts shales dent to shame Hope you get it fixed nice and quick so we can get started on that conversion.
  9. Why's that? (i don't read it)
  10. Yeah well mine never had the clutch shield. But, it did roll out the factory a twin turbo, and those secondary's typically don't get used a whole lot.
  11. I remember a large discussion about this on the old forums. What i took away from it was that there's not enough gain to make it worth it. But there was argument about that. Personally, I think it's one to do when you're trying to brake the 300KW mark.
  12. Yes they do but they normally look like: (stolen from Legacy pics thread) I'm talking about the ones that look like mine: Judging by this pic it looks the same: (again stolen from Legacy pics thread) Not as many of those around. Negatory, that's not an e-tune spoiler. The stickers must have come off yours, it's actually an RFRB spoiler. Was an option on the BG's, nothing to do with e-tunes. Thought i'd clear that up.
  13. Great, yeah, i've PM'd him already asking what year the car was and what the old ECU sticker says. And i knew there was a difference pre and post facelift Thanks mate.
  14. Haha, that would be great. Also bothers me how the primay side of the scoop is being wasted too. Might be an idea to make a custom splitter too, or atleast block it off to try not waste the air.
  15. Hey all. I've been talking with a guy in england who says he has an STi gen 1 GT, and he's got a buggered ECU. I've heard about these STi GT's before, i use to know a guy who saids he owned one too, but i never knew if it was an actual STI, or the original owner kitted it out with STi parts. Anyone know more on the subject? Anyway, it just happens that this guy's going to be in queenstown for the next 3 weeks, and i said i'd find him a new ECU while he's here. I'm just wondering if there's any differences with the ECU's, for example between years, such as pre and post face lift... Obviously it would be nice to find the best possible ECU. Maybe one from an RS-RA if they are different or something. So if anyone can enlighten me on the old gen1 ECU's that'd be great. I've sent him a link here too btw, so you might seem him online. Also, let me know if you have an ECU available of course!
  16. Every so often my clutch pedal gets all slopping, almost similar to brake fade type sloppy when you start boiling your fluid. After some talk on the forums about not having a heatsheilds on ya turbo, i put two and two together. Is it possible that the turbo is heating up my clutch fluid when it gets nice and toasty? Would that actually cause the clutch to go soft, or would it have a different effect? I never bothered replacing the heatsheild on it after the single conversion, cause we kinda munted the old secondary ones comprehensively while getting them off (I was frustated with with working with TT's ) Will any heat shield fit? can i get away with only sticking the top one on - it's just too much hassle having both on... The turbo as is now:
  17. So how is it on a TT ECU then? does it control the boost fine enough and all that? And CEL's?
  18. Might be an idea to get a new... um, thing. I don't know what it's called but there is a one way valve thing in there that pops out. I broke it while cleaning mine. Got a replacement from winger.
  19. Yeah, i have always heard that come up. Everyone's paranoid about blowing turbo's on the twin apparently, but i think BLSTIC is right. External wastegate and a proper TT boost controller and you'd be sweet. Is there any way to improve the secondary's exhaust valve too? I mean, every time i look at one, all i can think about is how much of a restriction it looks like. Anyone tried improving on that?
  20. Er, you don't need the differential pressure sensor to run at all, single turbo ECU's don't reference it. Unless you're trying to do this on the TT's ecu... in which case, lol, have fun.
  21. Nah, i was laughing cause he's complaining the tein lowering springs are high! Thought i'd show a pic of my car to add perspective. [quote name='keltik said: Hmm how much does a spring set cost these days? Im looking at dropping my BH on bilsteins a wee bit and dont wanna lose the lovely damping from those struts I just sold the King super lows i bought for $160. (Since i'm moving oz any month now, and leaving the car in care of my dad who would complain )
  22. Conversion? that's just a stock USDM outback lowered. All the USDM outbacks post 96 came with 2.5's. And no-functional hood scoops. Their GT was also a 2.5 N/A with a scoop that did nothing. pretty boring.
