  1. Look under the car... there isn't much to avoid. Exhaust and chassis rails is about all. You can actually put bolts through the chassis rails, but they would need to be really long. Make sure you use plates on the underside of the car as the steel is pretty thin.
  2. I would start by finding out what error code it is trying to tell you.
  3. I stayed out of that one once the real science nerds got involved... all I know is that methane smells really bad and methanol doesn't. The price has really shot up... I put some 98 in my rex today and regretted checking the price per litre... I will leave my head firmly in the sand next time.
  4. Go back to science class... you mean methanol.
  5. Depends on quantity. Nothing dangerous about making a bottle or two to drink
  6. Pretty sure you wouldn't be able to make it to sell commercially... other than that... I can imagine there will be any laws. We are not in a state of prohibition.
  7. If you can feel the heat from downpipe in the foot well then a possible scenario is that MAF is failing... causing your car to run lean... meaning more heat... and the extra heat is messing with the 02 sensor and the brake fluid sensor, which is pretty close to the turbo. Or maybe someone has removed the heat blanket from the firewall and removed all the heat shields from the downpipe and turbo???
  8. The MAF sensor can cause the mixture to be too lean or rich, but I don't know if it's going to throw an 02 error because of that? The 02 sensor is plumbed right in behind the turbo and has a limited operating temp range... a long hill on boost, might push it out of it's operating temp, which might cause it to throw an error... but I used to get the same thing happening in mine because the 02 sensor was missing. I would replace it personally... and the MAF sensor.
  9. I ran without an 02 sensor for a while in mine... no problems... apart from going up long hills... then an error code. Put a sensor back in and the error went.
  10. MCA are good... a bit more expensive than BC and XYZ. I have had both BC and XYZ and they are very different... I don't believe any stories about the cheaper shocks all coming from the same factory as it's just bullshit propagated by people selling more expensive stuff.
  11. You can upgrade the bushes all round and get a roll center adjustment kit and anti lift kit for the front, but it doesn't sound like you are quite ready for any of that yet. Good coil overs, setup correctly and a good wheel alignment should keep you happy for a while.
  12. Yes it looks good now... borderline dodgy only.
  13. XYZ are a lot better and around the same price. No reason the replace the tie rod ends unless they have play. What would you replace your control arms with?
  14. I managed to get the right torque on it just by putting it in 3rd with the handbrake on.
  15. Any lower will look retarded and F*** your handling up.
  16. I don't think Sam meant that they actually took a diff and welded it up like a school boy drifter... but the end result is the same.
  17. Modern oils are very high tech... forget about understanding them before you get your Chemistry PhD :0
  18. What about about twin scroll from new? With the filthy equal length headers? (edited for bigger flame)
  19. No, Alexandra Road hillclimb and Wallaceville Hillclimb. No green wheels on those days.
  20. Yes, I raced this car a couple of times in March and pretty sure he said he had closer to 270.
  21. Oil unfortunately is more complex than most people can understand and the internet is jam packed with misinformation.
  22. lols... it doesn't really matter... the point is that both numbers mean something... and it's not just down to the umm quality and umm the specific additives etc
  23. yes, 5w40 will be good. Just get what ever oil you want... semi or full synthetic. He's probably saying semi-synthetic because that's what would have gone in there when it was new and if you are changing the oil at the right intervals it will be perfectly fine.
  24. Possibly it's trade price... lols... no you are correct.
  25. Wow, are you paying so much for filters that $23.42 is cheap? I only pay $20. And you know the shipping goes up with each item right? 6 filters plus crush washers is 108 NZD... that $18 for one filter and washer, so not amazingly cheap.
