i'm looking at the split setup too on my 89 rs leggy........I've been told I can run 2 right hand rails with the factory fpr's (1 on each side i guess). Is this just as good a setup as splitting them and running a single aftermarket fpr?
yes definitely cast Tree..........what were they doing in a V3 sti?..........could it have been repowered with a non STI motor.....or do STIs run cast pistons from the factory?
thanks ichi.......but look back up this post a little at those pics of the undersides of those pistons.....they are supposedly out of a V3 sti (forged right?)......but they have casting marks?
u see that pattern on the bottom?........I have been told that that means the pistons are cast........not forged? Maybe the person who told me that was all shite? He reckons forgies are smooth on the underside. Frakn confused now
How much would I expect to pay for a good second set of these V3 pistons?
thanks tree........are they V3 forgies in ur pic? Can u post pics of the underside of them?
BC........nah haven't bought it recently had it about 18 months now.
I'm looking at using a set of these in my rebuild. I've heard they came out in the V3 sti. Can someone give me the low down on these? Are they also known as composite? I have been told that they don't require the same kind of tolerance as full forgies and can drop straight into the factory bore with a hone. Are they as strong as full forgies? what else should I know about them? cheers
ahhh it's a great thread gota love it no reason why we can't debate the pros and cons of these things even if this subject has been thrashed before....lots of great info in here.........some strong opinions too........ but very little conclusive evidence either way. Think I'll stick with waic for now but keep an open mind to fmic
