  1. Dunno if I'd be keen to do a clutch on the driveway but engine pulls are easy as on driveway
  2. Oh mate I'd be pissed it someone damaged my car too! 5k is certainly not pocket change to me lol. I merely seek to advise it's not so bad "don't let my bad arse ride fool you, I'm broke as ****" Also my legacy is 1991 too haha
  3. so in 15 years when it's rusted out completely (def could get it fixed if you wanted at a later date) you'll be lucky to get 5k for it. See what the value of a 2001 legacy is now for comparisons . Lovely cars don't get me wrong! Not trying to hate, just mean like realistically they're not worth a lot to hold onto anyway so you probably shouldn't worry too much
  4. weight reduction brooooo. While not ideal I personally would just tidy it up and seal it back up. Outbacks are worth next to nothing in terms of resale value anyway
  5. In that condition you'd probably only get 1000-1500 for it, in parts your likely to get something around the same mark and it will take a lot longer plus you have to actually get hands dirty. A lot of those faults are easily fixed imo, but scrapping a car can help you learn a lot if your that way inclined. 50/50 if it's a gtb with ej20r engine then single turbo conversion could be fun and easyish. Also helps hold value. p.s blue smoke could be oil seeping from turbo and is commonish on older cars. Compression test would go a long way to deciding what's best. Pulling an engine to fix the clutch is pretty easy and only going to cost you maybe $750 including basic servicing of problematic areas. Problem is where do you stop with replacing things on an old tired car..
  6. I vote aim for the 220 -250kw combo, it's the best bang for buck you will get. Or if you really want that 450hp out of your car just sell it and grab something else/already finished. A similar year sti would have the drivetrain to handle the power you seek where as yours probably won't handle it too well. look into these mods decap injectors or similar fuel pump intercooler sti turbo or similar reflash ecu tune be happy and probably only cost you the price of the link, then you could grab a set of grippy tyres and a big rear sway bar to help with cornering. There is a guy on here who decaps injectors, are they the side feed or top feed with that engine setup? His forum name is Tony Worth sending him a message I think p.s inb4 ring failure
  7. as long as you let it cure before smashing 60psi in it I'm sure it will do the job lol
  8. http://www.supercheapauto.co.nz/online-store/products/Permatex-High-Performance-Thread-Sealant-50mL.aspx?pid=129928#Recommendations What are you using it on? I've used that permatex stuff on low pressure fuel systems without any problems. Haven't tried on a high pressure system as haven't had the need to but I'm sure it works fine on both
  9. Yikes... That is in legitimately worse condition than the one I have at my house which has been sitting out in the rain for at least 18months now... I would stab a guess this has been sitting outside for at least 3years to get to that state. That is disgusting btw. You couldn't pay me $100 to put that on my car! Small claims the ****, that's not acceptable at all. (and to think I was only after $40 for my good working condition radiator lol)
  10. https://www.facebook.com/totalturbonz/ it was supposed to read $450*** my bad
  11. Could also grab a td05 for $50 or so have it rebuilt with bigger wheels and cover ect for roughly $450 Boom new turbo that will outperform any single scroll vf turbo, and for a similar price to what a 2nd hand vf costs
  12. you can get wideband o2 sensor for $300 if you wanna monitor it yourself on the go. New factory sensor can be brought from partsouq o2 sensors are one of the general causes for rich fueling but it could be anything (I'm not super familiar with the newer stuff but injector seals are common leak points on early engines) my old legacy with rich tune gets 6-7 km per L lol
  13. Yeap, was meaning like then you can run any fuel without worrying about what it could be doing to your engine
  14. not a bad idea to get a flex fuel sensor aye
  15. Ummm if you're trying to save it just a hack saw with a 32 blade thing. Maybe a a grinder with thin blade, Possibly snips/cutters but then you'll have to fix the part that's bent flat. Be sure to get the swarf off the edges If you want to replace it, buy a threaded nipple piece from somewhere (try plumbing store maybe) Grind old nipple flat, drill correct size for thread, tap thread
  16. Nah they're ****. Suppose it depends what type you use and how they're done. But as a general rule they're ****. And to save what $20?
  17. That will probably be the cause of the late spooling. Not sure if it will fix your no boost issue. Definitely check the intake for piping leaks they are very common. And make sure you replumb the stuff back up to factory
  18. Yup supercheap have some cheap packs of 10 for about $6 or so. BNT will have the nice strong hose clamps but they'll be a bit more pricey than the supercheap ones, ask for trade discount. (I would only recommend the super cheap ones for low pressure situations e.g not on fuel lines)
  19. one of the biggest improvements I did to my old legacy was replacing all the ****ty cable ties with proper steel clamps. It made a world of difference and cost only about $20 in materials. As Ross said the sensors need to be plugged in and have a vacuum reference. Check the cables are still soft and rubber feeling, if they're brittle they have to go in the bin yea? Obvisouly you've found your main problem in that turbo nipple but I would take this as a time to check all the piping. If your boost is coming on really late it could be a fault of turbo but it also could be leaking or cracked intake piping - check all the piping to the turbo for cracks and make sure the joins are steel clamped (no cable ties), check breather lines are secure and not cracked, replace anything that is brittle Leaking intercooler piping - this is generally quite obvious, car will make wooshing sounds but have no power, again check for leaks around the intercooler bends/joins and steel clamp everything Leaking exhaust before turbo - Very common for uppipes to let go around the flexi joint, headers to crack, turbo exhaust housing to crack around the v-band. Generally you can hear the leak or know the engine is unusually loud If you can confirm all of that is mint then you can go ahead and swap a turbo and might I suggest grabbing a td05, getting an 18g wheel and cover on it and have a great turbo that cost you all of $400, similar/better output than a vf22 and will last the distance people have seriously got to get over this misconception that the vf22 is the best subaru turbo, it's not. It's a good turbo, a great one but it is not the best for a multitude of reasons.
  20. knock threshold will be lower with lower octane fuel. PRobably won't notice anything until it gets very hot and then the knock will come.
  21. Ok so I can't get the cambelt pulley 10mm allen bolt loose from my v5 sti engine. I've got a 600mm power bar and impact socket on it, with a mate holding the cam in place. Won't budge... Tips please? I've googled but nothing really super helpful... The pulley is actually chipped anyway... So I guess I could smash the thing off and chuck it in a vice or something?
  22. Well for 1200 that is pretty poor. Glad you got the $$ back.
  23. I had mine rebuilt with new wheels at a cost of $450 for your reference (which I thought was pretty pricey as it was just seals/wheel +balance) The front brakes I'm about 99% sure bolt on. The rears don't as the bolt spacing if different. Not sure how your 2 pot rears are installed so may still bolt on to existing setup depending what parts have been used. The benefit of upgrading to the big brembos isn't really worth it (unless it's a track car and you're getting fade or something?). The 4pots/2pots should perform quite well when setup right, (pads, lines, tyres)
  24. get your td05 upgraded to an 18g/20g wheel, better output than a vf22 and probably cost you less at the current mental made up value people seem to want for those vf22 turbos Front brembo will bolt on, not sure about rears.. (I know stock they don't but you already have 2 pots so maybe they will?)
