Questions about buying a Legacy GT

Test drove the GTB again, was impressed with how it went, although the piston slap is bloody annoying and even when warm it is still there, just very faint... but it doesn't have an aftermarket exhaust to drown it out haha. He's dropped to 4.4k as I bargained him down a bit, so it's pretty tempting

Also, it seems that all the other GTB's on trademe in Chch have also been run on 95, and asked another subaru mechanic and he said that it shouldn't be a problem at all (but reading around on the net suggests otherwise)

Depends really, if they guy raped the car every day it will be a problem. If he nver used secondary turbo, it won't be a problem at all. 95 just can't take the stress oh a high revving, high boosting engine, but if you don't bounce off the redline everywhere you go it should be ok. Do note you get better fuel economy on 98, and so use less fuel, and end up spending roughly the same price anyway. Makes no sense to use 95 unless it's unavailable.

I reckon if it's good, go ahead with it. Get a mechanical warranty. THEN change the oil after the warranty is set up and in effect. Find out what oil he uses, and how often he does it. If he can't tell you, be prepared for the worst should it happen.
