coolant boil over help

just update on car.

for reference to others. ended up having a massive split in intercooler pipe going to turbo which was causing my boost problem for ages and therefor blowing headgasket for being left so long.

picking car up in 2 hours, got cam done, red top repainted and new piping and everything should be mint as now.

will post up pics once get it back!

hope this helps others if it happens to them

TK tests are not conclusive, you need to do a leak down test with the engine hot or presserise each cylinder at tdc with compressed air and watch the water rise or fall at the header tank. could also be thermostat but not likely.

id take a tk head check as being conclusive.... as it chemically tests for combustion gasses present in the cooling system.... there is physically no other reason for combustion gasses to be in the cooling system other than head gsaket / cracked head or blown turbo centre( extemely rare)

TK checks need so much exhaust gas that most mechanic's don't need to it to tell a headgasket has failed and leaking into cooling system as it's obvious !

I use the leakdown test when hot check gaskets (comp air into cylinders) best test I have found that is accurate during the last 20 odd years

Oh yeah most common cause of Subaru headgasket failure and over heating is due to blockage of heater core

i think the reason ive steered away from leakdown tests is because you can only put upto 120psi into the cylinder where as a running engine can have around 300psi of combustion pressure. but aslong as you properly diagnose the problem and fix it the first time any way is fine...

We are taking petrol engines not diesel ;D

Yes dynamic compression higher than comp test but not by that much (180psi at idle max)

And it's only there for a m/s where 120psi shop pressure is a constant

oh ok i work a shitty little garage in tauranga and my "boss" dont even own a crescent and i have 1 apprentice and a retard floor sweeper to look after who are a hand full. i think at this stage il still go with the tk head chek for theese dicks rather than try and tell them how to set a motor up at tdc and not cross thread the plug hole

yeah thats wat im after... alredy had the apprentice do a head gasket on a l300 yesterday and it seized the cam because of no moly on the cam during assy. and smahed the rocker gear off the top of the motor and is going to cost bout a grand to fix..mint. guess who will be drinking bourbon while watching him tomorrow

i removed the blow off valve to make the piping that goes to it as short as possible.

For a week or so after then it blew a little water when hot. Looks wack cos of the steam rising from your vents.

Its stopped and all is good now.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
