Generations, years and model numbers. Info for a Nube.

Recommended Posts

Can someone please point me to a list of the various Subaru model numbers, generations, years etc most relevant to JDM/NZ.

For example I have a JDM Dec 2003 Outback BPE, but if I look on any USA sites it seems to be the same as the USA 06 Outback. Also I seen to get conflicting info regarding the generation, some site show it as 4th Gen and others 3rd. Are the Legacy/Outback models and generations the same?

Might be a useful Sicky for nubes like me.

Sorry if this has been covered, I tried searching for models, model numbers etc

I actually find wikipedia normally quite accurate for this sort of information. Don't listen to americans on forums etc though because they got completely different models than JDM / us and got them late and other such annoying shite. So conflicting info is caused by AMERICA!!!! FUCK YEEEEAH!

US spec is waaay different to NZ/AUS or JDM spec, so pretty much ignore it.

MY = Model Year, which usually starts in the year before, ie. your Dec 03 is an MY04.

The following only applies to Legacys/Outbacks.

Gen 1 = BC/BF = MY89 - MY93

Gen 2 = BD/BG = MY94 - MY98

Gen 3 = BE/BH = MY99 - MY03

Gen 4 = BL/BP = MY04 - MY08

Gen 5 = BM/BR = MY09 to current

The first chassis (eg BC, BD) is sedan, the second (BF,BG) is wagon.

The number or letter after that denotes engine capacity and 2WD/4WD. This works for Gen 1 to Gen 4. The 5th Gens changed.

2 = 1.8 FWD

3 = 1.8 4WD

4 = 2.0 FWD

5 = 2.0 4WD

6 = 2.2 FWD

7 = 2.2 4WD

9 = 2.5 4WD

E = 3.0 4WD

So a BF7 is a Gen 1 wagon with a 2.2 engine and 4WD.

And a BEE is a Gen 3 sedan with a 3 litre engine and 4WD.

And a BEE is a Gen 4 sedan with a 3 litre engine and 4WD.

So shouldn't a BEE be a Gen 3?

Also how does a B4 fall into all this?

Oops, good spotting. I'll change it.

B4 is simply a name given to Gen 3 and Gen 4 sedans.

      Afternoon team,
      im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
      Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

      Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
