Tiptronic Transmission SOS....please :)

subaru legacy b4 1999

We are having trouble with our gear box when you put it into drive it lags before it kicks in - sometimes you will be waiting minutes.

When going into reverse it does not seem to have a problem, only for the drive gears does it lag. Does anyone know of what could be causing this and what we would have to do fix this.

When last was the car serviced (including the gearbox), have you checked for error codes, etc...

Probably needs a service, and sensors checked.

Also there is a switch from memory under the trim that may need cleaning and could be the cause...

Thanks for that - I don't know when the gearbox was last serviced, we have had it for about a year n half. Sorry where did you think that switch was?

i would say the needle is sticking get it flushed and filters oil changed, we had this issue on my brothers auto never came perfect, in the end replaced the gear box

he dont treat it nicce tho so yours might come right

This is a very common fault in these cars. The low clutch seals are worn and need replacing. The transmission needs to come out and be stripped down unfortunately. There is about $100 worth of parts involved, but around 10 hours labour, so not a cheap job.

holly cr@p yeha could sort you a deal at our wreakers with warrenty on the plate under the bonnet there is a trans code if you post that up i can get a price for you

Personally I wouldn't go secondhand, it may do it too. Just get your auto fixed, especially if there's no other issues with it.

A secondhand auto box for those is normally up around $1200 - $1500 anyway.

Iv heard of good results from using an atf aditive, it swells the seals slighty and stops the low clutch bleading off. It might be worth a try to get another 20,000kms out of it. As it has been said above dont go a second hand box as this is a super common problem.

Yeah but if I got 20,000-30,000kms for 40$ I would be quiet happy, especially if i couldnt do the work myself.

I will try the flushing and filter changes first, if that don't work then I will try the ATF aditive and well if that don't work I will arrange for it to be stolen hahaha...let you guys know how I go
