03 bp5 legacy engine replacement??

Guest

Recommended Posts

Hi, I just bought an 03 bp5 turbo legacy with a siezed bottom end. Had planned on replacing it with a motor from an engine importers but turns out they didnt have the one they thought they did. Havent had much to do with subys till now, anyone know what the differences are between the variable timing bp5 engines and the earlier/different model engines are? In other words is there any other engines that will slap straight in, or just use the bottom end out of? The less work i have to do to get it running the better haha. Cheers

seized bottom end? what part of the bottom end?

maybe crack open what you have and go from there. a new donk could be up to 4k for a replacement, and 4k for a rebuild... what would you rather have..

Try Waiuku Car Spares. They have a few BP's around.

Not sure whats siezed havnt pulled it apart yet. Wont be spending 4k on it though. Dont want to pull the motor apart if i dont have to, would rather just replace it but the engines arent as common as the older ones so if nothing else is a direct bolt in, was thinking maybe could use wrx/forestor/legacy sti/non sti short block with the bp5 heads, anyone see any problems with this? Any difference in the blocks etc?

Hmmm, it will have to be a V7 or later block, but I don't know about compressions with the V7 pistons. Best just to find the right engine.

I think because they are using avcs?? I'm just guessing since that was the issue with my v8 longblock, and yeah waiuku do have lots on bp5 stuff just got my exhaust manifold from them for my ez30 project seems they have a few of them lying around

Oh yeah i realise that if i find a replacement to drop in id want one with the avcs, but if i use the avcs heads off the one in the car at the moment is there anything stopping me using an earlier block? Any bellhousing bolt pattern differences etc?

Oh sweet so long as its v7 or up it should be the same, will just have to work out compression ratio and check valve clearance. Thanks for that

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
