Anyone know much about Amplifiers???

So my 1200w sony subwoofer which has a sony 444w amplifier on it randomly goes on and off during a song.

It never used to do this and has only recently happened..the wiring is fine, but the problem is that the remote wire that switches the amp on is causing the problem as the LED light that shows the amp is on goes on and off ???

Does it sound like the amp is f*****?

Any thing else?

cheers

could just be a loose connection on your ACC wire. or maybe even your ground?? not hard to diagnose yourself mate.

maybe look at the ground first. if thats sweet then follow your ACC wire from the amp to the headunit. most probably someone did a dodgy connection via the headunit and its came loose.

So it's a 4 channel amp right... is the sub single voice coil or dual voice coil? Are the voice coils 4 ohm or 2 ohm?

How many channels on the amp are you using? How is it wired up on the amp?

You might be loading the poor amp too hard and it's heating up and cutting out, then coming back on as it cools down.

Thermal overload on the sonys usually gives a flaashing yellow/red status light. I reckon its a loose remote connection in the amp, maybe exacerbated by thermal expansion.

Yea it goes on and off randomly. Also it isn't heating up have checked it and its not hot.

The other day though while the car wasn't moving I unscrewed the remote wire and then screwed it back in and the light went on then slowly faded off ???

Last night it turned on as I went over a speed bump.

when my sony amp used to go out on thermal it'd take a good 10mins to cool down enough to reset itself

if it's going on and off quickly it's more likely a loose wire IMO

The first gen 222's did it the way he discribes. By the sounds of it hes running off the 1200 into the 444 using the wired connection. Not exactly how they were meant to be setup.

Edit: just read you last post. Sounds like a dodgy ground.

I've seen something similar where when the amp powers on, the LED flickers for a split second.. then no sound.

I'd also say its a dodgy ground..

make sure its bolted on tight, and ensure to sand the paint properly off the grounding point.. for best results, you'd have to be able to see the bare shiny metal around the ground.. and use a star washer for better contact.

  • 2 weeks later...

Good News :D

I got around to checking the ground the other day and sure enough it wasnt connected properly, the end was moving around underneath the bolt that was supposed to be holding it down!!

Have fixed it now and the sub is once again humming out epic basslines ;D

Cheers for the advice.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
