96 TSR Cambelt Kit??

Guest

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I've got a 96 TSR with 97,000 on the clock. Obviously its coming up to the 100k service. I need to have to filters/oil done now anyway so I figure I'll do it all at once and bite the bullet. Got a mate who can fit it all for me, but wondering where I should buy the parts? Where can I get a full cambelt kit/waterpump for a good price? I assume a 96 TSR has the EJ20 quad cam engine, and that this could work...

But i thought I might find it even cheaper round town somewhere, I'm in Christchurch. Don't mind buying from the states or anywhere online tho. Be good if i could get the filters/oil at the same time and place too...

Anyone got any good ideas for me??

Thanks for any help,

Tom

buy genuine ive see after market pumps fail after 40k

Ditto. ONLY buy genuine when it comes to the cambelt/idlers/tensioners/waterpump, these are things you don't want failing, and believe me, they can f***ing fail if you skimp and go aftermarket. I've seen far too many f***ed aftermarket pumps.

Oh, just to be painfully obvious, yes, you need to do the water pump while you're at it.

Um... from working on cars with problems?

I'm going to guess it's not 'none have never failed', but instead, 'none have ever come back to me'. Because surely you're a subaru mechanic if you've fitted "a hundred" aftermarket pumps.

I'm no mechanic, but i have worked on a few subies. And to date, i've probably come accross 3 or 4 failed aftermarket pumps. From my "small sample size" that's enough for me to take the hard line against going cheap on these parts.

no, not a subaru mechanic, but have seen a few in my 7 years.

and im sure the guys i worked with would have said something if they thought they would fail also, as they have been doing it since before you were born.

Im sorry but I have to thoroughly disagree with that opinion of aftermarket parts. Are you actually aware that subaru regularly change their supplier of OEM parts due to Supply and demand. They actually outsource OEM parts to other companies alot of the time if they cant get the parts themselves. Ive bought genuine parts and had aftermarket brands come out the box. They must have some sort of trust in them. Plus, ive regularly seen them survive just as long as OEM. Always keep it within Japan though. So, dont buy it if its from China.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
