Legacy BG5 Towbar Info

Hey guys,

I've been searching and searching for information on a genuine factory fitted towbar for a BG5 Wagon.

What i'm wanting to know is i've had a look on my wagon (GTB BG5 TT (soon to be single) Manual) and noticed quite alot of rubber gromets / holes etc not being used by the tail gate. Obviously the body is identical to one factory fitted.

What i'm wanting to know is.

a) Is a Subaru factory fitted towbar direct bolt on into these holes? ie. no drilling etc.

b) What is the towing capcity on these? Will it be fine to tow a 15-16ft boat, 20 minutes up the road. Single axel two wheel trailer.

c) If anyone has one can they post some pictures on how it's actually bolted up?

Dunno bout the BG5, but the BH5 is a direct bolt on... just remove factory grommets etc... prob be the same..

Thanks Joker, that answers the question about towing a boat.

Any photos on how it's attached to the car exactly? (obviously bolted)

1 each side throu a frame rail, 1 ea into the tow eye's/hooks and 1 into a hole in the spare wheel well (5 points all up)

I've already got my rear bumper off so i'll post some pics tomorrow.

I didnt insatll mine but the 2 in frame rail and other in spare wheel well do enter the skin so I assume they need to be drilled to accomodate 15/12mm bolts (unsure of size)

edit - oh, and providing you don't hold it on the rev limiter in third for too long ( ) it tows just fine. my sea nymph is a heavy old girl, and the car comfortably takes four of us and a fully loaded boat an hour up the road........

double edit and hijack - nice avenger joker !! spent most of the late seventies / early eighties lusting my dads mates tiger......
