aftermarket y-pipes

I'm looking at replacing the factory Y-pipe on my WRX (non-STi).

Would it be worth the gains over the factory pipe?

Secondly, there seem to be two distinct designs I can choose.

#1 here vs #2 here

Currently, I'm leaning more towards #1.

Any advice would be great!

can i ask why u choose 1??

i would rather prefer 2 even though it costs more. i have never replaced a factory y pipe with an aftermarket y pipe so i wouldnt have a clue how much of a difference it makes.

Why not just purchase a y pipe off an sti? most people seem to just do that.

I chose #1 because I intend to get an aftermarket TMIC in future..

and with the joins in between, I have the option of a bit more reach (if needed) to fit the new intercooler..

oh okay. but im sure (depending on what TMIC u get) the aftermarket V8 TMIC are made to suit a GC/GF8 therefore the y-pipes should be identical to your current one.

there are people who have upgraded to V8 tmic on here. maybe they will speak up soon

But given the dimensions given etc, its most likely what I'll get..

got it in mine you'll have to go with option two like i did but i went red

i had option one on my sti tmic and i haven't noticed any difference apart from a stronger boost and more noise.

How heavy is it?

i think it was 11kgs from memory so wasn't light i bought mine from a wreckers then the next week i saw them on trademe but i guess mine came with the mounts for it already made up as one of my factory ones didn't match up and i had to move my clutch reservoir as well.

yeah fit with the 2nd easily i had to go back and buy the y pipe from the wreckers as i knew if fit while the other one was to short to fit up to the turbo the other one was heaps as you can see in the pic.

as mines a ver5 it wasn't an easy fit as there meant for the ver7 but i didn't want a FMIC like everyone else had.
