Why 2x antenna connectors?

In my Dec-93 (but Gen 2) Legacy, there are 2 antenna connectors. I'm installing a new head unit and there will be an antenna socket not used. Will this cause any problems?

its just for running multiple import items, navigation etc etc

Yeah it's basically a male / female combination of the same thing

Oh good. Was worried that it would affect antenna standing wave ratio or something but just connected up the new head unit into 1 of them and it worked fine.

I thought it was similar to the nissan diversity antenna system, they also run two leads?

Haven't seen one of those Kenwood GX-77 units in years, even 5+ years ago the CD players stopped working in them. Was yours still working Al? If so that's quite legendary. I guess it finally became redundant when classic hits moved from 90.0 to 90.1

The wierd thing is that both the car and the receiver have 2x leads - male and female. I originally thought maybe the 2nd female connector may have been a sheilded control wire for the up/down motor of antenna so I put 12v down it to check. A fuse blew. Who knew that would happen?! Classic case of overthinking.

The GX-77 played CDs but only on shop recorded ones. Home-burnt didn't get read. Tape and radio still worked fine. Now replaced with a 2nd hand unit ex Stoffa. It's an Apine CDA 9847 and works good. Repco didn't have a suitable Subaru connector so I did a top-class butcher job with 12-14 bullet connectors!
