loud ticking noise??

hey guys

have topped up oil..last check oil level was couple of mls under the high hole make

engine has a loud tick coming from turbo side...defitnately dont sound like big end...

could it be the shims?buckets??tappets? could some thick oil addictive make it quieten down?

Try Pro-ma MBL8 man its magic , Its about $30 for 300mls but you only need like 50mls or something so last afew oil changes

Dont bother try MBL8, you've got solid lifter so wont make a difference.

How many kms on the engine, may have broken a shim, 99% sure if its not sti it'll have shim over buckets which have more chance of being damaged.

Could also be a dodgy injector, or if its not actually coming from the engine it could be your boost solenoid playing up or just a good old exhaust leak (yes they sound like a tick)

My advice would be to find a head specialist or a subie specialist and see what they think.

Alot of misinformation on the net you know.

hi its not running thru the boost solenoid..so thats out

i did the screw driver to the ear...and had the flatie screwdriver on the fuel pressure regulator...it was making noise along side with the loud tick...

so would it mean dodgy injector???injector cleaner??

it is defitnately more prononced on the fpr than the inlet manifold..

maybe injector cleaner would do it. But to get them cleaned professionally should only cost around $100 if you pull them out yourself.

Just make sure you relese the fuel pressure before disconnecting the lines. (unplugging the fuel pump while its running works well, only do it while its idling though)

Also use new orings when you put them back in.

My mates V7 sti had 2 dirty injectors that had bad spray patterns and his car had done under 100,000kms.

Also if your boost solenoid is still wired in but the vacuum lines not plugged in this will definatly tick alot. If thats the case just ignore it unless you have an aftermarket computer, cos if you unplug it you'll get a fault code

i took to mechanic and they reckon its bottom end noise..... :'(

i can swear that its only coming from the back hand corner by the turbo and you can hear it from the top end...screw driver to the inlet mani..theres noise

screwdriver to the block..no noise

if it was big end wouldnt you hear it everywhere in the engine?

if u cant hear it at the block then i doubt it is a bottom end noise

Piston slap? does it ever go/Quite down once engine is at temp? My legacy had piston slap and there was no performance decrees I still ran 15 pound without trouble.

From what you have told us I very much doubt it's a big end.

gutd man,when my engine ran the beb i thought sumthing was lose,like a lose heat sheild or sumthng rattiling cause you could only here the fuckd beb when you revd it off 2000rpm,but good luck with the rebuild
