Power steering shudder

So i did a search and saw AIMs thread but it didnt help...

I have a shudder in my power steering at full lock sometimes, also on start up there is a very loud squealing.

After a few seconds it goes away or goes away completely under load.

The Steering belt is about 10,000KM old, fluid was changed 11,000 ago and is full, seems to be no leaks.

Belt doesn't appear to be loose, maybe a quarter inch movement in the belt at heavy finger pressure on it.

My next thought was power steering pump, but will that cause the squeal?

Anyone got any other ideas?

the squeal will be your belt for sure

at a guess the pump is on its way out

disconnect belt from pump and see if the issues goes away

Had a bit more of a play, tightened the belt up what I had been told was too tight but the squeal and shudder are gone.

It has very little pay at all now with finger pressure put on it but as I say no squeal and the belt isnt visibly warping at all.

So im gonna assume the pumps ok for now.

Am I correct in assuming that a slipping belt at full lock would cause the shudder?

could do

at full lock the powersteering pump will be bypassing as well

Bypassing?

As in at full lock it isnt using the pump?

The pumps have a pressure bypass in them ,this operates when pressure is over spec seems to be at full lock
