RS legacy weird turbo issue

My friend bought an RS legacy today knowing that the turbos weren't functioning properly, but on the way home after stopping and starting the car a bit after the check engine light came on, it started to build boost (only 4 psi) and then felt like the engine cut out for a second or two, then later on it would boost 3 psi roughly, and stay on 3.

As we got near the end of the drive the check engine light came back on, and once again there was no boost.

Has anyone else heard of anything like this before? Its got us pretty stumped.

Will check out codes tomorrow, just took it for a drive before and its hitting boost again?

Turbo will still randomly stop working, but if it is boosting, it seems to taper off if I put my foot flat?

Also according to the crappy autogauge boost gauge, its still only getting up to about 4 pound :-\

i would say yu gota intake leak around some were.check all the vacume hoses round the turbo,make sure there its any lil splits or holes in the hose

definitely check your codes first. i had a similar thing on my gt, boost would build up and then cut at around 3k revs and go into safe mode. i could accelerate slow but any time i put my foot down it cut out again. turned out i had a code 66 which is a problem with the tt setup. it can be one of 3 things but will be either the primary or secondary turbo vac lines or the transitioning between the two. to cut a long story short i ended up having to replace the solinoid box. runs mint now and pulls a bunch cleaner. let us know what you find with the codes anyway, i know someone who can ship refurbished boxes from the uk for reasonable prices... good luck!
