Legacy powersteering rack

as some of you mite know im having afew issue with my powersteering:

on cold morningt works great for say 3-4 turns then stops and feels heaver

ive brought a power steering pump cause i thought it was stuffed but when i went to pull it off oil squirted out so there was some pressure there so started the car and oil went everywere lol, so i firgure the pump works and didnt replace it.

Ichi ban said this would most likely be the power steering rack

Anyone know what other P/S racks would fit from other subaru models

ive heard legacys have a P/S ecu or something, do any subarus not have this ecu so that p/s just works fulltime

does the power steering light come on at any time?? also have you jacked up the front of the car and tryed turning the steering without load on the steering to see if it still cuts out??

my steering rack kept cutting in and out ended up being a wiring connector on the steering rack with loose wire, the connector is where the steering shaft connects to the steering rack some pressure sensor

And yes ive had it up and bleed it but i cant really tell because ive never had it up while its been cold in the morning

yep i would say your rack is shot then and some seals inside damaged bypassing the power steering fluid or pistons in the rack worn

Yea i was under the car today and noticed the P/s rack was leaking abit

So what other P/s rack will fit, any that dont have the mind of them own would be good lol

I had my leggy steering rack rebuilt for around 4 hundy by a place in aucks. Can't remember the name but give richard @ chequered flag a buzz he will have the name

a dude off trademe (the guys who bluids the 600hp 15grand long blocks) has a brand new rack for and gc8 for $150 and said he can do the same price for a brand new leggy aswell
