mechanical warranty?

what's the process of getting mechanical warranty?

does the car need to be inspected prior to approval?

i'm thinking of getting one because of the ski season. mainly concerned about engine and transmission as the car is getting old and stacking up mileage

also how's oval.co.nz ? anyone had good ro bad experiences with them?

Most of the time the vehicle must be inspected before you can get the warranty (unless of course you brought the car from a yard already with one).

In terms of private warranty I have not had any dealings with that company although I know AA offers them as well. The main thing to consider is the follow factors

What does the warranty cover and what does it not cover.

EG Engine, Transmission, turbo, etc etc etc

Also consider what the excess is, some companies have no excess some companies have an excess as high as $500

Also consider the cost of the warranty vs the cost of normal maintenance.

Consider buying a warranty for 3 years for $2000 which is what AA charges

For this situation we will assume an excess of $400.

Lets say that during the course of the warranty your transmission fails.

The warranty companies says no worries, we will fix it.

So you fork out 400 and they fix it, then you get sent a bill for consumables (such as oil etc as warranty doesnt cover this).

Lets say they charge you 100 for consumables.

That comes out at a total cost of $2500

Now I am not saying that buying the warranty is a bad idea I am merely saying that it is a good idea to consider how the cost of buying and USING the warranty vs just budgeting a small amount for repairs.

I am confused either.. Got 1 yr warranty from jannsen which fast4s arranged for me.

My first servicing after 3 months of owning the 2004 wrx shows that the cambelt should have been changed in 2009 but its not. My miledge is 77k. In this case am i required to change the chambelt at my cost? Or wait for it to spoil and get it repaired by warranty?

@ Matthewscl. Youl have to do yourself at your cost before what it states in your policy (95K kms or whatever) or itl void your claim validity if it snaps due to not being replaced aka car not maintained properly etc

Dont know why your mechanic/workshop suggestd it should have been done in 2009 when its only at 77kms and its not a 20yr old vehicle lol...

Im sure some1 can clarify this further for you tho . Thats just my understanding of how 95% of mechanical warrantys work..

Yeah heard that before, 5 years is not 100% necessary if you ask me but hey I wont "argue with the book" lol :

and if it said it needs to be done by that date id ask the mechanic nicelly to back date when he did it, otherwise if anything is out of place they wont give you anything towards it

But i was thinking how can u tell if its not replaced without the ability to check? I was told u need to dismentle quite a lot of things inorder to check the chambelt?
