Drag racing rules

A friend of mine is building a 10sec evo he wants to race at meremere. I've done a fair bit of searching but can't find anything conclusive about what exactly is required in the 10.99 and faster bracket. this is perhaps even more confusing by the sanctioning body changing from nzdra to ihra.

to be specific, he doesn't want to lose his backseats or interior but wants to be able to keep racing once/if broken into the 10s. now, it would appear that a "roll bar" type cage is minimum, and according to the lvv site, it CAN be certed with rear seats provided the bars don't go within certain areas of the backseat passenger, i.e, bars with massive bends in them. basically i want to know if a cage of this type will be OK for the strip as it is obviously inferior and compromised compared to a normal half cage. my guess is the lvv certification will be enough

conclusive advice or a point in the right direction would be appreciated

Ive seen a few roads going cars with seats etc in them. It is possible.

There is a handbook on the race laws for minimum caging, but i cant remember exactly where to get it. NZDRA would def have it.

To do a ten I think you need a full cage from memory.

My mate did a 10.73 in his diesel MX Lancer at Meremere.

Has a half-cage and slicks. Still has a WOF and rego, so assuming he got a cert. for the half cage..

He has stripped the interior too - only the dash and both front seats remain, last I checked..

more so a pisstake at how easy it is to get an 11 from an evo when compared to a subaru.

yip sounds about right. but the info i'm after is more specific, on what exactly the half cage has to have/do

im pretty sure if you go into to 10sec bracket you have to have a minimum 6 point cage

Ill ask a guy I know (not a close person I see much) but has an evo2 on spray that does 10.1 and know has a wof/reg. Be interesting when it drops into the 9's tho! (his aim he reckns) lol. If i get hold of him ill post the info here
