a quick question

im about to replace the motor in my 97 v3 non sti wrx with a ej20g out of a old legacy gt now it has a blowen headgasket on it what i want to know is would my heads from the wrx motor fit and work on the legacy motor and what other parts do i need from the wrx motor to make the legacy one work in my car?

the heads will fit & have been swapped before but i'm unsure about the pistons - valves part as i thought that you had to change the pistons to suit??? the crank sensor may differ from the older type & not sure when they changed the heater hoses?, as the older rs/gt legacy's run from the passenger side instead of the center -no real problem though just some modding maybe

but someone i'm sure will confirm

So long as you use the engine loom that matches your vehicle the new engine fitted will operate ok.However tuning may/will be required so an after market computer would be a good idea.

Or at least one that can be retuned to get the best from your efforts.

My old 91 wagon GT loom runs my modified engine sweet as.....With a G4 link controlling the beast!!.

those heads will work, just make sure you buy the 1.4mm steel head gaskets, all early (phase 1) motors use this sized head gasket. Piston and valve clearance will be fine, its only when you change to v5 onward heads that you'll have clearance problems.

you'll still be able to use your factory ecu and full setup if your only changing the shortblock, if you doing the work your self make sure you at least check the valve shim clearances,
