Legacy Wagon not starting, White smoke from negative terminal

Hey guys,

Have got a 95 legacy wagon that was running fine until the other day.

Got back from Aucks ( live in the manawatu) and didnt use the car for a day or two.

Went to start it again and it wouldnt crank. I did however notice some white smoke coming from under the hood.

When I turn the ignition the negative terminal starts letting of white smoke!!

I have cleaned the terminal connection and it still did it so I tried a new battery and still white smoke.

When you jump it the car starts fine, turns over right away etc, just happens when you try start off by turning the key.

Any ideas? All i can find from my research is that the terminal connection might be bad or its the battery. Have ruled out battery so what else could it be??

replace the negative(and positive ) terminal/s with some heavy duty ones....

it will be a bad connection and I would guess that the negative one will be split/corroded so that it will no longer tighten enuff....

Factory terminals on most vehicles are not worth crap :)

I personally prefer and use PROJECTA terminals that are available from your nearest repco

The starter still clicks a little bit...Does this still indicate that it could be the terminals?

yup still would suspect the terminals

and where in the manawatu is u based

And you guys are awesome, went to repco and got new terminals and now it starts first time everytime
