cam position sensors

are the v6 and v7 cam angle sensors the same (goes in under the oil filler cap area)

the units look abt the same just that the plug on the loom is slightly diffewrent

do they all operate on the same pricipal 9hall effect from what i can see)

making them interchangabloe with small loom mod

or do they output different signals???

Hall effect only give on off signals but the length of the signal is Important / I'm not sure about Subaru but normally the signal for cyl 1 is longer than the rest

The sensors operate the same - its wether or not it bolts up and the loom difference

so i thought too as its only reading off the wheel so signals be comparable...

Exactly - the wheel is what denotes the signal

Yea man the sensors look identical except slightly different plug

As above I was under the impression that the sensors just used hall effect so didnt matter??

Have a fair few v5/6 sensors and not any v7 ones henc the swap idea

probably something to do with AVCS, need to be able to know alot more positions to keep the cam timing in check.

I know the crank trigger has about an extra 20 lugs on it.

You can try it but I dont think it'll work

Yea the lugs on the wheel are suited to the ecu - the fact the sensor is only pulsing to what wheel it is reading from I'm picking the sensors are the same

Only way to know is to try it

lol no not that..

just that i have a hored of sensors i collected in my v6 days and while going thru i got thinking of using on v7..

hmm may have to try out..

back the timing by 5degrees and wg pressure first hahah

Why ? If u try it and the car runs then its obviously working lol

If u watch any hall effect sensor through an oscilloscope they all do the exact same thing - the trigger wheel is what provides different signals that's all

yep the good old hall effect sensors..

hopefully works..will try the experiment sometime and update

ohh and the whole timing thing - just to be safe in case issues at higher rpm..i dunno ..lol just makes me think its safe.. :
