EJ20R Questions?

Just been having a read up on the internet on the EJ20R.

From what I have gathered so far, they came in GTB Legacy around the 96' to 98' age? Apparently according to some forums, they have semi forged internals with a better compression ratio than a standard EJ20 out of a same year WRX?

Just wondering if anyone on here can confirm this?

Define 'better' it depends on what you want- whether you want to be able to run more boost- or better off the bat without it on boost. High compression : better off the bat not on boost, low compression : handle higher boost- better for top end.

It' entirely what you want the car for that defines what is the 'better' compression ratio.

General consensus and from seeing mine in bits is ej20r is not forged. Same compression ratio (8:1 I believe) and near identical heads to the ej20k from the version 3/4 sti. As far as I know the main difference in the heads is in the valvetrain, shim over bucket on the r and shim under on the k. The r heads will also have 2 oil/water feeds for twin turbos
