BG 250t

So after some guy rear ended my girls car and wrote it off we have some insurance money to buy something else. Unfortunatly with the amount of money she got we have limited options. One of those options is a 95 bg 250t. Now I have a BH model 250t which has never missed a beat (well nearly never). Just wondering off any issues the BG's are known for. Ive heard head gasket issues (actually the car we're looking at is getting a replacement one put in as we speak) but would like to hear of any experience you guys have had with them. Any replies appreciated.

The guy mentioned it had an oil leak but after I took it for a drive it looked like it had a chimney blowing out the smoke.So it was off to the mechanics to get fixed. Apart from that ( and a dodgy electric window) it seemed to drive pretty sweet.

Madmike also has a early BG twin turbo for around 3k, fresh wof/reg

Only a couple of grand to spend and has to be auto. Prefer to stay away from anything turbo'd. Any idea what a HG replacement may end up costing the seller?

to do it properly around 2k ( this includes gaskets and a head refresh,and new belts,tensioners idlers) mainly why people just buy a second hand engine and chuck it in...

You wont get much for 2k.... well maybe a starlet or corolla

cool. we intend on getting a pre purchase inspection if the mrs is keen on it, that will pick up any HG issues? And yeah we're having trouble finding anything for around 2k. She had an old Laser GL in mint condition, 98k on the clock, fresh brakes and recond radiator etc.. but the guys effing insurance company shafted her. Didnt even bother to send out an assessor to take a look.

regarding window. goes halfway down then stops then when you put it up it makes a rather loud click click click sound at the top. He mentioned it was probably the regulator. Does this sound right and if so is it much of a job the change over.

Regulator, piece of piss. The problem with the oil would have been the rocker covers leaking oil onto the manifold, all Subarus do this pretty much. Listen for bubbling noises through the dash when decelerating that will mean air in the cooling and after getting the HG done it shouldn't do that because they will do a vacuum bleed. Also if you have the red carpet in there, I will give you my first born child for the front passenger one.

if anyone has a quick run thru of what it takes to remove and replace the dodgy window regular I would aprreciate some help. Which nuts need to be loosend/ remove etc. bout 60 bucks from the wreckers.
