Towing

Wouldn\'t recommend this type of towing with any Subaru its the quickest way to kill them. Subarus don\'t have a high enough tow rating. ie kerbweight too low and transmissions / drive line isn\'t strong enough to handle a tandem trailer plus vehicle ie 2000kg +. The repair bill would buy an old falcon / commodore / hilux / land cruiser / similar (as previously suggested by others ) to do the job easier / safer / better. Someone local has blown up their 05 3.0R Outback tiptronic transmission recently from towing a tandem trailer with quad bikes after a 5 / 6hr trip.

i can tell you from experience that SL8R had trouble keeping up in his Commy ute with three 3.0 wagons towing back from Taupo.

1 being a Standard 2002 GT30 towing RS on heavy full wooden deck rescue trailer

2 being 2002 GT30 manual convert towing Leonie hatch on steel trailer

3 being a 3.0R BPE Outback towing wrx wagon on steel trailer

;D Daughter uses a 2002 rs30 to tow a late model and light double horse float with no problems. Use the power button an the shifter so you are not loading the trany to much, they will tow a well balanced trailer with out a problem,just dont let any thing load-up or struggle to much.Also trans oil cooler is great idea.
